Roseburg Seeks Volunteers For Homeless Commission And Planning Commission

ROSEBURG, Ore. — The City of Roseburg is looking for community members interested in serving on two city advisory commissions.
Applications are now being accepted for vacancies on the Homeless Commission and the Planning Commission. Both groups serve in an advisory role to the Roseburg City Council by reviewing information, discussing local issues and offering recommendations. The commissions do not establish city policy.
The Planning Commission reviews land use and development matters, including development projects and issues that may later go before the City Council. The commission currently has two vacancies, according to the city’s commission page.
The Homeless Commission advises the council on homelessness-related issues and community needs. The commission currently has one vacancy, according to the city. Applicants for the Homeless Commission must live or work within the Roseburg School District.
Applications are available through the City of Roseburg website under the commissions section, or in person at the City Administration Office at Roseburg City Hall, 900 SE Douglas Avenue. Completed applications may be emailed to info@roseburgor.gov or delivered to the City Administration Office. Questions about the Homeless Commission application can be directed to 541-492-6866.

Oregon Employment Department Releases 2026 Careers Magazine

SALEM, Ore. — The Oregon Employment Department has released its 2026 Careers magazine, a free resource designed to help students, job seekers and people considering a career change explore their options and plan for the future.
The magazine is available in both English and Spanish and includes practical information on career planning, education and training, job searching, interviews and labor-market data. Educators, school counselors, occupational counselors and educational institutions can also order free print copies and download a student activity guide.
The annual publication is produced by the department’s Workforce and Economic Research Division. This year’s edition includes 40 articles, with topics such as pre-apprenticeship programs, job shadowing, help paying for college, advice from recruiters and steps for a successful interview.
Bob Uhlenkott, director of the Workforce and Economic Research Division, said the goal is to help Oregonians connect their interests and skills with real career pathways.
“Our goal is to highlight real career pathways where Oregonians can connect their interests and skills to occupations that are in demand across the state,” Uhlenkott said.
The magazine is divided into five sections: career planning, education, job search, career guide and resources. One of the main features is the Career Guide section, which uses the Oregon Career Information System to provide information on 240 occupations. That includes wage ranges, apprenticeship availability, education and licensing requirements, annual employment and average yearly job openings in Oregon.
Readers can view the 2026 magazine here:

The Oregon Employment Department also publishes Career Aware, a two-part version designed for elementary-age students:
“This information is for Oregonians of all ages, whether you’re figuring out what you want to be when you grow up, considering a career change, or looking for your next position,” Uhlenkott said.
The department said its workforce research division collects and shares economic and workforce information to help Oregonians make informed decisions about education, training and employment.

CHELSEA ROSS NAMED INCOMING YONCALLA SCHOOL DISTRICT SUPERINTENDENT

The Yoncalla School District has announced the appointment of Chelsea Ross as its next superintendent.
A district release said the board selected a familiar and experienced leader with deep roots in the district and a strong commitment to student success.
Ross currently serves as the principal of Yoncalla Middle/High School and brings more than 15 years of experience in education and school leadership to her new role.
After high school in Idaho, Ross went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Oregon. She later completed a Master of Arts in Teaching at Pacific University, following by a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership from Sothern Columbia University. In addition, Ross holds her initial administrative certification from Concordia University of Chicago.
Ross began her career in education as a classroom teacher for ten years. She taught for five years at Phoenix Charter School in Roseburg before joining Yoncalla Middle/High School, where she taught for another five years. Her leadership journey in Yoncalla started when she served two years as Dean of Students for the district. She was then appointed principal of Yoncalla Middle/High School, a role she has held for the past three years.
Ross said, “I believe every student is capable of learning, growing and achieving success”. Ross said, “It is my responsibility, and that of our district, to ensure students consistently see, hear, and feel that belief. Student success is built through strong, positive relationships with all staff – both certified and classified – and paired with clear, high expectations and a commitment to high-quality instruction”. Ross said, “What these parts are working together well, we create a space where students not only thrive academically, but also feel a deep sense of belonging and pride in their school”.
Ross will assume her superintendent duties July 1st, following the retirement of current superintendent Brian Berry.
