Roseburg Masonic Organizations Honor Local Scholarship Recipients
Local Masonic organizations honored several Douglas County students through the Roseburg Valley Scottish Rite Scholarship and the Manfred Rathbun Memorial Scholarship, continuing a longstanding tradition of supporting education and local students.
ROSEBURG, Ore. — Several Douglas County students are being recognized through scholarship awards presented by local Masonic organizations, continuing a long tradition of supporting education, personal growth and community service.
The Roseburg Valley Scottish Rite and Laurel Lodge #13 recently honored students selected for scholarship support as they continue their education in a variety of fields and career paths.
The Roseburg Valley Scottish Rite Scholarship recipients are:
- James Bowen
- Josey Evertt
- Teagan Favuer
- Alexa Bachmeir
- Angeline Pratt
- Hayden Wier

The Roseburg Valley Scottish Rite is a fraternal organization connected to the Masonic tradition. The group says its mission includes encouraging education, personal growth and service without bias. Its members support educational opportunities for students as well as speech services through clinics.
According to the organization, scholarship funds come from state investments and locally invested funds set aside to help advance education and promote understanding.
Laurel Lodge #13 also recognized recipients of the Manfred Rathbun Memorial Scholarship, which honors Rathbun’s legacy by helping students from Douglas County continue their education.
The Manfred Rathbun Memorial Scholarship recipients are:
- Evalyn Buenau
- Kaylen Farrare
- Ruby Geiger
- Cruz Dirksen

The Manfred Rathbun Scholarship has supported students pursuing different educational paths and fields of study. According to the lodge, more than $90,000 has been awarded through the fund over its lifetime.
Laurel Lodge #13 was founded in Roseburg in 1855 and is considered the oldest fraternity in the city. Its early members included Aaron Rose, Gov. Stephen Chadwick and other local leaders. The lodge continues to welcome those interested in personal improvement, education, reflection and service.
Members of the Masonic Fraternity are part of a worldwide organization with a long history of civic involvement, charitable work and support for education.
Through the scholarships, the local Masonic organizations continue their longstanding support of education and students in Douglas County.
