Warm and dry conditions continue this week with breezy to locally gusty afternoon winds. Temperatures will trend higher Friday, then cool over the weekend. Weak upper level disturbances will move across the area in southwest flow through this weekend, resulting in periods of enhanced winds, but the chances for showers or thunderstorms is very low. A dry cold front may bring gusty winds to many areas on Saturday afternoon and evening.

DFPA Protected Lands

The Douglas County Fair returns to Roseburg from Wednesday, Aug. 5, through Saturday, Aug. 8, bringing four days of carnival rides, livestock exhibits, concerts, fair food and longtime community traditions.

This year’s theme, “Fair, Fun & Freedom!”, recognizes America’s 250th birthday while celebrating the agricultural heritage, hard work and hometown pride that have shaped Douglas County for generations.

Often promoted as the “Best County Fair on Earth,” the annual event will take place at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Roseburg.

Fair Hours

The fair will be open daily during the following hours:

• Main Gate: 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
• Carnival Gate: 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
• Exhibit Buildings: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Concerts and Headline Entertainment

Headline entertainment is included with regular fair admission, continuing one of the event’s most popular traditions. Reserved concert seating and access to the new VIP Pit Area are available separately.

This year’s headline schedule includes:

• Wednesday, Aug. 5: Challenge of the Champions Bull Riding at 7:30 p.m.
• Thursday, Aug. 6: Aaron Lewis at 7:30 p.m.
• Friday, Aug. 7: Tone Loc at 8 p.m.
• Saturday, Aug. 8: Niko Moon at 8 p.m.

Attractions Throughout the Fairgrounds

Visitors will find activities and entertainment across the fairgrounds, including Dock Dogs, BINGO, Master Gardener exhibits and demonstrations, a model railroad exhibit and performances on the Garden Park Stage.

Scheduled and roaming entertainment will include:

• Comedy stuntman Matt Barker
• Local musical groups
• A senior talent show
• The Diaper Derby
• Sterling the Bubblesmith
• Arty the Circus Drummer
• Lessa the Hula Hooper

These attractions are included with fair admission.

Rainier Amusements will also return with midway rides, carnival games, kiddie rides and a large Ferris wheel. Advance carnival ride bracelets will remain available through Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Fair food will range from traditional favorites such as corn dogs, fried bread, barbecue and caramel apples to churros, jumbo curly fries, grilled cheese sandwiches, ice cream and deep-fried Twinkies.

Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday

Patriotic decorations, displays and special activities will recognize the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Organizers said the theme is intended to celebrate freedom, perseverance, hard work and community while also recognizing the agricultural and rural traditions that have made the fair a gathering place for more than a century.

Local Youth Remain at the Heart of the Fair

While concerts, rides and food attract thousands of visitors, 4-H and FFA members remain at the center of the Douglas County Fair.

Hundreds of young people spend months preparing animals, exhibits and other projects for fair week. Through those programs, students develop skills in leadership, responsibility, sportsmanship, public speaking and financial management.

The annual Junior Livestock Auction will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, in the Beef Ring.

Businesses and community members can support local exhibitors by purchasing animals during the auction. Proceeds help young participants continue their agricultural education and future projects.

Open Class Exhibits Highlight Local Talent

Open Class competitions will showcase the work of adult exhibitors from throughout Douglas County.

Displays and competitions will include:

• Livestock
• Photography and fine art
• Woodworking and crafts
• Quilts
• Gardening and flowers
• Baked goods
• Preserved foods

Open Class entries and judging begin Saturday, Aug. 1.

A Tradition Dating Back More Than 160 Years

Douglas County’s fair tradition dates back to 1860, when an agricultural fair was held in Oakland.

The current Douglas County Fairgrounds property was purchased in 1944, and the first official fair at the location was held in 1945. Generations of families have since returned each summer to celebrate agriculture, craftsmanship, education and community.

Visitors will also be welcomed by Dougy, the fairgrounds’ well-known logger mascot. Dougy has greeted fairgoers at the main entrance since 1965 and remains one of the fair’s most recognizable traditions.

Whether attending for livestock competitions, concerts, carnival rides, exhibits or a favorite fair food, organizers say the event will offer something for visitors of all ages.

The 2026 Douglas County Fair runs Aug. 5 - 8 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Roseburg.

ROSEBURG, Ore. - After more than four decades of music, dancing and late nights, Rumors Nightclub is preparing to close its doors permanently.

The longtime Roseburg nightclub announced that its final weekend will be held Friday, July 31, and Saturday, August 1. Doors will open at 8 p.m. both nights for what the business is calling its “Last Wild Weekend.”

“The Rumors are true,” the nightclub shared in its announcement. “Come raise a glass, hit the dance floor, and help us close this chapter the only way we know how to.”

Rumors has served Roseburg for 42 years, becoming a familiar part of the city’s nightlife and a place where generations of customers gathered with friends, celebrated special occasions and spent weekends on the dance floor.

A bar manager said longtime employees will return to help give the nightclub a proper farewell.

“Come out for one last weekend to remember,” she said. “All the OG bartenders and staff will be there. We’ll be permanently closing after this weekend.”

The nightclub’s announcement encouraged customers to take one final trip down memory lane and celebrate the many years of memories made inside the venue.

Rumors is located alongside Kowloon Restaurant on Northeast Diamond Lake Boulevard. The closure announcement applies to the nightclub, and no additional information has been released about the restaurant or the future of the space. Kowloons will remain open.

A Rumors manager told The Roseburg Receiver that the nightclub is closing due to retirement and that there are plans to sell soon. Additional details about what will be included in the potential sale have not been announced.

Rumors’ final weekend-long party begins at 8 p.m. Friday, July 31, and continues Saturday, August 1. The event is listed as 21 and older.

“Let’s go down memory lane for a grand send-off,” the nightclub wrote. “Cheers to 42 years serving Roseburg.”

ROSEBURG, Ore. - An electrical fire inside Splitz Bar and Grill filled the restaurant with smoke Tuesday morning, prompting a second-alarm response from the Roseburg Fire Department.

Firefighters were dispatched at 10:57 a.m. to a commercial fire alarm at 2400 NE Diamond Lake Boulevard, a building occupied by Splitz Bar and Grill and Ten Down Bowling.

A business employee and a Roseburg Fire Department battalion chief approached the entrance to the restaurant. When the front door was opened, they discovered smoke throughout the building and requested a second alarm.

Fire crews entered the building, extinguished the fire and completed primary and secondary searches. Firefighters were able to prevent the flames from spreading into the remaining portions of the commercial structure.

Crews then conducted extensive ventilation because of the large amount of smoke inside the building.

A fire investigator determined the fire was electrical in nature and connected to a refrigerator or cooler in the restaurant portion of Splitz Bar and Grill. Fire damage was limited to the cooler and a nearby wall, although smoke damage was reported throughout the restaurant.

The building was equipped with an automatic fire alarm and sprinkler system. The alarm activated as designed, but the sprinkler system had not activated by the time firefighters arrived.

No one was inside the building when the fire occurred, and no injuries were reported.

The Roseburg Police Department assisted at the scene.

The owners of Nipa Hut, located in Canyonville, have announced that the local restaurant will close at the end of July after eight years of serving the community.

In a heartfelt announcement, the owner said she will undergo knee surgery next month and has decided the time is right to retire and spend more time with her husband.

“The last eight years have been a true blessing,” the announcement said. “We would like to take this opportunity to thank you, our loyal customers, for allowing us to serve this amazing community through food and friendship.”

Nipa Hut has become more than a place to stop for a meal. Over the years, the business has built lasting friendships with customers and established itself as a familiar part of the community.

The restaurant will serve its final meal Thursday, July 31, from 1 to 3 p.m. All proceeds and donations collected during the farewell meal will benefit the Canyonville Museum.

Customers are invited to stop by, enjoy one final meal together and say goodbye to the owners as they begin their next chapter.

Until the closing date, Nipa Hut’s hours are generally 11:30 a.m. until approximately 3:30 or 4 p.m. Closing time may vary depending on the heat. They are located at 130 SE 2nd St. in Canyonville.

Myrtle Creek’s Music in the Park returns Thursday evening with a full-band performance from The Fabulous Del Monte Brothers.

The free concert begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Millsite Park, located at 231 Volunteer Way in Myrtle Creek. The band’s schedule lists the performance from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

The Roseburg-based group will bring an evening of old-school blues and rhythm and blues to the park, led in part by harp-slinging bluesman T-Bone Stone. The band’s founders, Stone and Mike Keizer, have performed together in different configurations while working with other experienced Southern Oregon musicians.

The Fabulous Del Monte Brothers perform music spanning decades, including blues and R&B from the 1920s through today, along with original material. The musicians have spent more than 20 years performing throughout the region at festivals, wineries, breweries, clubs and community events.

Thursday’s performance is part of the 39th season of Myrtle Creek’s Music in the Park. The concert is sponsored by Dad’s Garage Taphouse, while Lauren Young Tire Center is serving as the overall sponsor for the 2026 season.

Admission and parking are free. Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Dogs are welcome but must remain under control, and owners are asked to clean up after them. Food vendors are also expected to be available at the park and nearby.

Music in the Park is coordinated by the Myrtle Creek/Tri-City Area Chamber of Commerce and supported through community donations, grants and gifts.

TILLER, Ore. - Firefighters continue working to establish containment lines around the Castle Fire as hot, dry and gusty conditions raise concerns about increased fire activity northeast of Tiller.

The lightning-caused fire began July 22 and is burning approximately 23 miles northeast of Tiller. The July 28 update lists the fire at 1,550 acres, based on the latest size estimate dated July 25. Containment remains at 0%.

A total of 435 personnel are assigned to the fire, including hand crews, engines, water tenders, dozers and other heavy equipment. Additional resources have also been requested.

Moderate to active fire behavior has been observed, including backing and flanking fire with the potential for short-range spotting. Crews are constructing and improving containment lines while preparing nearby roads by removing understory vegetation and hazardous trees.

Near-critical fire weather conditions are expected over the next 24 hours. Gusty afternoon winds, combined with hot and dry weather, could challenge suppression efforts and increase the potential for fire growth.

There are currently no evacuation orders or evacuation warnings associated with the fire. No highway closures have been reported.

Forest Roads and Recreation Areas Closed

The Umpqua National Forest has implemented Closure Order #06-15-02-26-01 to protect the public and firefighters during suppression operations.

The closure includes National Forest System lands, roads and trails around Little Black Rock and Castle Creek. Roads affected include:

• National Forest Service Road 28 from the junction of NFSR 2823 to French Junction
• NFSR 2800-400
• NFSR 2823
• NFSR 2830

South Umpqua Falls Campground and the South Umpqua Falls Day Use Area are also closed.

Stage 2 Fire Restrictions Remain in Effect

The Umpqua National Forest remains in High Fire Danger, with Stage 2 Public Use Restrictions in effect across the forest.

Campfires are prohibited in wilderness areas, and public firewood cutting involving an internal combustion engine is restricted. Campfires are still permitted in Forest Service-constructed concrete or metal fire rings at designated developed recreation sites.
