Tim Freeman Selected As New Chair Of DINT Advisory Board

ROSEBURG, Ore. — The Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team Advisory Board has selected Douglas County Commissioner Tim Freeman to serve as its new board chair.
DINT announced the selection in a Thursday release, saying Freeman was nominated and unanimously chosen by the advisory board this week.
The Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team, commonly known as DINT, is a long-running interagency narcotics task force serving Douglas County. The team was established in 1989 and has remained in operation since then, using a collaborative model that brings together personnel, resources and expertise from multiple agencies.
Partner agencies involved with DINT include:
- Douglas County Sheriff’s Office
- Douglas County District Attorney’s Office
- Roseburg Police Department
- Oregon National Guard
- Oregon State Police
- Bureau of Land Management
The advisory board is made up of Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin, Douglas County Commissioner Tim Freeman, Douglas County District Attorney Rick Wesenberg, Roseburg Police Captain Jeremy Sanders and Oregon State Police Roseburg Area Command Lt. Jim Andrews.
DINT also receives funding support from the Oregon-Idaho High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program and the Oregon Criminal Justice Commission.
In the release, DINT also recognized Roseburg Police Captain Jeremy Sanders for his leadership and contributions while serving as chair of the board during the past year.
No direct quote was included in the release. Media contact for the announcement was listed as Lt. Nick Hansen, DINT Commander.
Central Douglas Fire & Rescue Conducting Hydrant Flushing Across District

Central Douglas Fire & Rescue crews are working through routine hydrant flushing and testing in several communities across the district.
The work is taking place in areas including Dixonville, Green, Melrose, Wilbur, Winston, Garden Valley and Umpqua, along with unincorporated areas near Roseburg.
According to Fire Marshal Josh Waechter, crews are conducting the work Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon.
Hydrant flushing is a normal maintenance process that helps ensure hydrants are working properly and that water mains remain clear. During the work, some residents may notice temporary discoloration in their water. Officials said the water remains safe to drink, even if discoloration occurs.
Residents who notice discolored water are advised to run water through their faucets until it clears.
Anyone with questions about the hydrant flushing and testing can contact Central Douglas Fire & Rescue at fireprevention@cdfr-or.gov.

The fire was contained to the bag house and did not spread to nearby structures, according to the agency.
CDF&R and Sutherlin Fire responded with four engines, one ladder truck, two command units and 17 personnel.
No additional details were immediately released.
Douglas County Honors Fallen Officers During Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony

ROSEBURG, Ore. — Douglas County officials, law enforcement agencies, families and community members gathered Thursday at the Douglas County Courthouse for the county’s annual Peace Officer Memorial Day Ceremony.
The ceremony, hosted by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, honored law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty and recognized local officers serving across Douglas County today.
During the event, Douglas County Commissioner Chris Boice read a proclamation on behalf of Commissioners Tom Kress, Chris Boice and Tim Freeman, declaring Friday, May 15, 2026, as Peace Officers Memorial Day and May 10-16, 2026, as National Police Week in Douglas County.
The proclamation called on residents to “observe May 15, 2026, as Peace Officers Memorial Day” in memory of officers who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving their communities. It also asked residents to recognize the families of fallen officers and honor law enforcement officers, past and present, for their service.
As part of the observance, the county directed facilities staff to light the front exterior of the Douglas County Courthouse in blue during National Police Week.
The ceremony included a presentation of colors, the Peace Officer Memorial Flag being raised and lowered to half-staff, ceremonial wreath placements, a special radio “end of watch” broadcast, a 21-gun salute, taps and bagpipe performances of “The Green Hills of Tyrol” and “Amazing Grace.”
Six fallen Douglas County law enforcement officers were honored during the ceremony:
- Officer Donald DeSues, Roseburg Police Department, EOW Aug. 7, 1959
- Special Deputy Ronald H. Terwilliger, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, EOW July 23, 1985
- Corporal Virgle D. Knight Jr., Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, EOW July 23, 1985
- Sergeant Gerald G. Chirrick, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, EOW July 23, 1985
- Deputy Morris L. Taylor, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, EOW Sept. 14, 2002
- Deputy S. Allen Burdic, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, EOW March 11, 2021
Following the ceremony, proclamation certificates were presented to attending law enforcement agencies, including the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Roseburg Police Department, Winston Police Department, Myrtle Creek Police Department, Roseburg VA Health Care System Police Department, Oregon State Police and the Interagency Honor Guard.
County officials also acknowledged other agencies and organizations for their support, including the Sutherlin Police Department, Reedsport Police Department, Cow Creek Tribal Police Department, Roseburg BLM Rangers Office, U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement, Roseburg Fire Department, DINT, Douglas County Parole and Probation, Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, law enforcement families and community members.

Rain Chances Return Saturday Before Warmer Weather Builds Next Week
ROSEBURG, Ore. — Roseburg is expected to see a mostly mild Friday before a weak weather system brings a chance of light rain late tonight into Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service in Medford said seasonable temperatures are expected Friday, with afternoon breezes developing across the region. In Roseburg, the forecast calls for partly sunny skies today with a high near 67. Winds are expected to become northwest at 5 to 9 mph later in the day.
Rain chances increase overnight, mainly after 3 a.m. Saturday. Roseburg has about a 50 percent chance of rain tonight, with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 45.
Saturday will be cooler, with a high near 59. Forecasters say the best chance for rain in Roseburg will be between about 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. Rainfall is expected to stay light, but the system will also bring cooler temperatures and breezy northwest winds at times.
Weather Outlook for Roseburg
- Friday: Partly sunny, high near 67
- Tonight: 50 percent chance of rain after 3 a.m., low around 45
- Saturday: 40 percent chance of rain, mainly in the morning, high near 59
- Sunday: Mostly sunny, high near 64
- Next week: Dry and warmer, with highs climbing into the 70s
The weekend system is part of a broader pattern bringing cooler air, stronger afternoon winds and marine clouds into western Oregon. The Weather Service said light rain is possible along the coast and north of the Rogue-Umpqua Divide, including the Umpqua Basin.
By Saturday night, Roseburg should dry out under mostly cloudy skies, with a low around 41. Sunday looks brighter, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 64. Sunday night will be mostly clear with a low around 42.
Forecasters are also watching for possible patchy frost in some west-side valleys Saturday night and Sunday night, especially in the Illinois and Applegate valleys. Roseburg is not the main focus for frost concerns, but outlying colder valley areas may briefly dip into the mid-30s.
A warmer and drier pattern is expected to settle in next week. Roseburg is forecast to reach about 71 on Monday, 75 on Tuesday, 77 on Wednesday and 78 on Thursday. The Weather Service said temperatures will rise above normal by midweek, though no major heat wave is expected.
