Body Recovered, Man Identified After South Umpqua River Drowning Body of a man who went under in the South Umpqua River near Portland Avenue on Feb. 27 was recovered March 2 by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team. He was identified as 46-year-old Johnathon Michael Laine of Roseburg. The case remains under investigation as a boating incident.

Accidental Cigarette Disposal Blamed For Green Mobile Home Fire Firefighters extinguished a structure fire in a single-wide home on Apricot Lane at Evergreen Village Mobile Home Park in Green within about 10 minutes of arrival. Central Douglas Fire & Rescue said the cause was accidental, likely improper cigarette disposal.
Attempt To Elude Arrest Made After Stolen Vehicle Stop Attempt In Roseburg Roseburg police arrested a 30-year-old man after a stolen vehicle linked to a robbery failed to yield during a stop attempt. Spike strips were deployed near NE Stephens and NE Garden Valley, and the vehicle stopped in the roadway. He was lodged at Corrections.
