Sutherlin School District has appointed Sutherlin High School Principal Jon Martz as superintendent starting July 1. The school board approved the hire after a search process. Martz will replace retiring superintendent Terry Prestianni and lead a district serving about 1,300 students.

Two grey fox sisters have arrived at Wildlife Safari’s free walk-through Village in Winston. The new exhibit gives visitors an up-close look at one of North America’s most adaptable fox species and adds to the park’s growing lineup of animals and interactive experiences.

Roseburg High School Theatre students and Altrusa presented the 26th annual Celebration of Literacy play Jan. 30, bringing an original student-created show about reading and storytelling to elementary students across Douglas County.

Forever Wild Wildlife Rescue, a nonprofit serving the Umpqua Watershed, has announced it is permanently closing effective immediately. The volunteer-run organization cited an inability to sustain services moving forward. Hotline operations and programs have been discontinued.
