Showers, Thunderstorm Chances Expected Tuesday Across Southwest Oregon
A cool, unsettled pattern is expected to bring widespread showers and a chance of thunderstorms Tuesday across southwest Oregon, with additional showers Wednesday before conditions dry and warm Friday.
ROSEBURG, Ore. — A cool, unsettled weather pattern is expected to continue across southwest Oregon and northern California Tuesday as an upper low remains over the region, bringing widespread showers and a chance of thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service in Medford.
Forecasters said shower activity Tuesday morning was expected to remain focused over Siskiyou County and areas west of the Cascades. A winter weather advisory remained in effect until 11 a.m. for higher mountains above 5,000 feet near the Trinity Alps and south of Callahan, where mainly light snow was expected.
As the low moves inland Tuesday, the Weather Service said conditions will become unstable and showery across the area. Widespread showers are likely, with thunderstorms also possible.
Thunderstorm chances Tuesday include:
- 15% to 30% from the Cascades west
- 10% to 20% east of the Cascades
Winds are expected to be breezy Tuesday. On Wednesday, additional showers are forecast, though thunderstorm chances are expected to decrease to around 5% to 10%. Gusty winds are also expected east of the Cascades Wednesday afternoon, with gusts of 25 to 40 mph possible.
Showers are expected to diminish Wednesday night into Thursday as the low moves east. Forecasters said warm and dry conditions are expected to develop Friday.
The weekend forecast remains less certain. The Weather Service said a weak upper trough may move into the region from the north, but forecast models still vary on its track. Current guidance shows a slight chance of light precipitation, mainly over the mountains and east of the Cascades.
Weekend precipitation chances include:
- 15% to 30% across the mountains and east of the Cascades
- 10% in valleys west of the Cascades
- 10% to 20% along the coast
Temperatures may trend cooler, especially Sunday, depending on how the trough develops.
