Heat Advisory Continues Through Wednesday Evening In The Umpqua Valley

ROSEBURG, Ore. - Hot weather will continue across central Douglas County on Wednesday, with temperatures expected to reach the upper 90s in much of the Umpqua Valley.

The National Weather Service in Medford says a Heat Advisory remains in effect until 11 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5. Afternoon temperatures are forecast to range from 95 to 100 degrees, while overnight lows are expected to remain between 60 and 65 degrees.

The advisory covers Roseburg, Winchester, Green, Sutherlin, Drain, Elkton, Umpqua, Myrtle Creek, Canyonville and Glendale. Tiller and Camas Valley are also included in the affected area.

Forecasters say the heat will create a moderate risk of heat-related illnesses, particularly for people without reliable access to air conditioning or other cooling methods.

Smoke from nearby wildfires could also make it more difficult for residents to open their windows and cool their homes during the evening and overnight hours.

Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, avoid extended periods in direct sunlight and spend time in an air-conditioned location when possible. People should also check on relatives, neighbors, older adults and others who may be especially vulnerable to the heat.

Outdoor activity should be limited during the hottest part of the day. Anyone working or exercising outside should take frequent breaks and watch for signs of heat exhaustion, including heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, headache and weakness.

Children and pets should never be left unattended inside parked vehicles, even for a short period of time.
