Roseburg Police Arrest DUII Suspect After Report Of Infant In Vehicle

Roseburg police arrested a 22-year-old woman Tuesday evening after officers responded to a report of a suspected DUII driver traveling from the Winston area toward Roseburg with an infant inside the vehicle.

According to the Roseburg Police Department, officers were notified that Mariah Kay Sabota, of Roseburg, was allegedly driving under the influence with a 2-month-old infant in the vehicle. Officers located the red 2014 Honda Accord as it entered SE Stephens Street from Highway 99 and reported that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and failing to stay in its lane.

Police conducted a traffic stop near SE Lane Avenue and SE Stephens Street at about 5:44 p.m. During the stop, officers contacted Sabota and later reported finding the infant lying on his back on the floorboard in the back of the vehicle.

Officers said Sabota agreed to perform standardized field sobriety tests and performed poorly. She was taken to Douglas County Corrections, where police said she refused to provide a breath sample. A search warrant was requested and granted, and Sabota was taken to Mercy Medical Center for a blood draw before being returned to Corrections.

The infant was picked up by Child Protective Services, according to police. Sabota’s vehicle was released to her mother at Sabota’s request.

Sabota was booked and lodged at Douglas County Corrections on charges of reckless endangering, reckless driving, failure to properly use a seatbelt, failure to drive within lane and driving under the influence of intoxicants.
