Roseburg Man Arrested Following Fatal Stabbing at ‘The Point’

A Roseburg man died following a reported stabbing early Wednesday at “The Point.” Police arrested 30-year-old Tyler Loyd Whitehead on charges of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.

ROSEBURG, Ore. - A 40-year-old man died early Wednesday following a reported stabbing in an area of Roseburg commonly known as “The Point,” according to the Roseburg Police Department.

Police officers and Douglas County sheriff’s deputies responded to the 200 block of Southeast Pine Street at approximately 1:42 a.m. July 22.

When law enforcement arrived, officers found Patrick Shane Belleci, 40, suffering from a severe stab wound and bleeding heavily. Belleci was transported by Umpqua Valley Ambulance to Mercy Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

The Douglas County Major Crimes Team was activated to investigate the incident.

Investigators identified Tyler Loyd Whitehead, 30, as a suspect. Police said Whitehead left the scene before officers arrived but later surrendered to law enforcement near Winchester and Nash streets in Roseburg.

Whitehead was arrested and lodged at the Douglas County Jail on charges of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.

The Roseburg Police Department thanked the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, Roseburg Fire Department and Umpqua Valley Ambulance for assisting with the response and investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said no additional details are being released at this time.

Charges are accusations, and Whitehead is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
