Theft Suspect Found Hiding in Roseburg Duck Pond

A Roseburg man was arrested after police said he stole $492 in merchandise from Fred Meyer, fled from security and jumped into a nearby duck pond to hide. Juveniles reportedly pointed officers toward his location.

ROSEBURG, Ore. - A Roseburg man was arrested Wednesday evening after police said he stole nearly $500 in merchandise from Fred Meyer, ran from store security and attempted to hide in a nearby duck pond.

According to the Roseburg Police Department, officers responded to Fred Meyer at 929 NW Garden Valley Boulevard at approximately 5:45 p.m. on July 29.

Police said 27-year-old Casey Dean Tuin allegedly stole $492 worth of merchandise before running from security personnel who attempted to contact him.

Tuin reportedly jumped into the duck pond near the store in an attempt to hide. Several juveniles who were standing nearby saw where he went and pointed out his location to responding officers, police said.

Tuin was arrested on suspicion of second-degree theft. Officers also discovered he had an outstanding Roseburg Police Department warrant for second-degree burglary.

He was lodged at the Douglas County Jail.
