Roseburg Hits 99, Hottest Day So Far This Year
Roseburg hit 99 degrees Sunday, making it the hottest day of the year so far. The heat came during the first major warm-up of the season, with a Heat Advisory in place for parts of Douglas County.
ROSEBURG, Ore. — It was a hot one in Roseburg on Sunday.
Temperatures reached 99 degrees, making it the hottest day of the year so far for the area. The heat was part of the first real summer warm-up of the season, with much of Douglas County feeling temperatures well above normal.
The National Weather Service had a Heat Advisory in place for central Douglas County and the eastern Douglas County foothills, including Roseburg, Sutherlin, Green, Myrtle Creek, Canyonville and Elkton.
With the heat showing up early in the season, officials are reminding people to take it seriously. Drink plenty of water, take breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and try to avoid heavy outdoor work during the hottest part of the day.
People are also encouraged to check on older neighbors, young children and anyone who may not have access to reliable cooling.
Pets should have shade and fresh water, and should not be left in vehicles, even for a short time.
While the air is heating up, local rivers and lakes can still be cold. Anyone heading to the water should use caution, especially with fast temperature changes between hot air and cold water.
More hot weather is expected Monday before temperatures begin to ease later in the week.
