Redeemer’s Fellowship Breaks Ground On “Extend The Table” Expansion In Roseburg

Article by The Roseburg Receiver

ROSEBURG, Ore. — Redeemer’s Fellowship has broken ground on a major expansion project in west Roseburg, beginning work on a building campaign the church is calling “Extend the Table.”

The project includes a roughly 13,000-square-foot auditorium building that will connect to the church’s existing main facility near West Harvard Avenue and Lookingglass Road. The new auditorium is expected to seat about 900 people, about double the capacity of the church’s current worship center.

According to Redeemer’s Fellowship, the project is intended to create more room for services, children’s programs, gatherings and other church ministries.

“This isn’t ultimately about buildings or numbers, it’s about people,” Lead Pastor Billy Rieder wrote in a letter connected to the campaign. “It’s about creating room for the next family who walks in, the next student looking for hope, the next person ready to say ‘yes’ to Jesus.”

The project is planned in phases. The first phase focuses on construction of the new auditorium. A second phase calls for remodeling about 10,000 square feet of the existing building to add children’s classrooms, expand gathering space and create more multi-use areas.

The total campaign goal is listed at $4.25 million. Redeemer’s Fellowship said the money will be raised through giving above regular contributions over a 24-month period.

Construction fencing is now in place at the site, and the new steel building is being designed to match the existing structure. Phase 1 is expected to be finished by late 2026 or early 2027, with Guion Randol Contracting serving as contractor for the project.

Redeemer’s Fellowship says its roots go back to small gatherings in the early 1980s. The church’s main worship center is located at 3031 W. Harvard Avenue, with additional ministry and office space nearby.

More information about the campaign is available through Redeemer’s Fellowship’s “Extend the Table” page.

Wildlife Safari Welcomes New Pack Of African Painted Dogs

Article by The Roseburg Receiver

WINSTON, Ore. — Wildlife Safari has welcomed three new African painted dogs to its drive-thru safari, giving visitors a chance to see the pack as they settle into their new home.

The new arrivals include Kiraka, a 9-year-old male, and his two 6-year-old daughters, Samburu and Mikumi. The family group came to Wildlife Safari from The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens in Palm Springs, California.

Since arriving in Winston, the painted dogs have adjusted well to their new surroundings, according to Wildlife Safari. Keepers said the animals have been enjoying the green grass and spending time exploring their habitat together.

Guests visiting the drive-thru safari can now watch the painted dog family as they explore, rest and become familiar with their new environment. Wildlife Safari said visitors can also get a closer look at the pack through the Pride and Pack encounter, which offers a chance to learn more about the species.

More information about Wildlife Safari is available at wildlifesafari.net.

GOVERNOR KOTEK DECLARES DROUGHT EMERGENCY IN THREE MORE COUNTIES

Article by Kyle Bailey at KQEN News Radio

On Tuesday, Governor Tina Kotek declared a drought emergency in Coos, Klamath and Wheeler counties through Executive Order 26-08 and directed state agencies to coordinate and prioritize assistance.

This marks the third drought declaration issued this year. In total, 12 of Oregon’s 36 counties are now under drought emergency status. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, Coos, Klamath and Wheeler counties are experiencing moderate and severe drought conditions, with extreme drought conditions present in parts of Wheeler County.

Forecasted snowpack, temperature, precipitation and water supply conditions suggest that drought conditions are unlikely to improve in the near-term.

Drought conditions are expected to significantly affect Oregon’s farms, ranches, recreation and tourism sectors, drinking water availability, fish and wildlife habitats, and other natural resource-dependent activities. Extreme dryness will likely shorten the growing season, decrease water supplies and increase wildfire risk.

The drought declaration unlocks emergency tools for affected communities, including assistance for local water users and expedited review processes through the Oregon Water Resources Department.

Last week, Douglas County Commissioners declared an Emergency Drought Order for Douglas County. The commissioners have requested that Governor Kotek issue an emergency drought declaration for the county. County Commissioner Tom Kress told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that state officials have asked the county for additional information, which has been provided.

BLM, WILDLAND FIRE SERVICE ANNOUNCE FIRE RESTRICTIONS

Article by Kyle Bailey at KQEN News Radio

On Thursday, fire restrictions will go into effect for all Bureau of Land Management administered lands throughout Oregon and Washington.

The BLM and the U.S. Wildland Fire Service leaders encourage all visitors to be aware of active restrictions and closures as warmer, drier weather sets in around the Pacific Northwest.

A release said the fire restrictions help reduce the risk of human-caused fires. Starting Thursday, the use of fireworks, exploding targets or metallic targets, steel component ammunition, tracer or incendiary devices and sky lanterns is prohibited.

U.S. Wildland Fire Service, Assistant Chief of Operations for the Pacific Northwest, Jeff Fedrizzi, said, “We are increasingly concerned that 2026 could rival the most extreme years on record for heat and dryness in the Pacific Northwest”. Fedrizzi said, “Every visitor must understand that even one spark can lead to a costly and destructive fire in these high-impact conditions”.

The release said people who violate the prohibition may be fined up to $100,000 and/or imprisoned for up to 12 months. In addition, those found responsible for starting wildland fires on federal lands can be billed for the cost of fire suppression.

For more information on seasonal fire restrictions and fire closures, go to  www.blm.gov/orwafire.
