Three Arrested After Douglas County Meth Investigation Nets More Than 21 Pounds Of Meth, DINT Says

A drug investigation in Douglas County ended Friday night with three arrests and the seizure of large amounts of methamphetamine, along with smaller quantities of other drugs and cash, according to the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team.
Investigators said the case centered on James Teel, 57, of Camas Valley, who was suspected of distributing methamphetamine in Douglas County. During the investigation, detectives learned Teel had allegedly carried out multiple drug-related transactions in the Ten Mile area.
On March 27, 2026, DINT detectives watched Teel as he left his residence and later contacted him in the 9000 block of Highway 42. Authorities said Teel tried to flee after detectives identified themselves and told him to stop, but investigators blocked his exit and took him into custody without further incident.
A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office K-9, Trapper, was then deployed and alerted detectives to the presence of controlled substances in the vehicle, according to DINT.
Search warrants were later carried out on both Teel’s vehicle and his residence in the 12000 block of Highway 42 in Camas Valley. Investigators said they found evidence tied to methamphetamine distribution, as well as additional drugs and a large amount of cash.
According to DINT, the investigation led to the seizure of:
- About 21.8 pounds of methamphetamine
- 12 grams of cocaine
- 18 grams of fentanyl
- Two oxycodone pills
- Bulk U.S. currency
Three people were arrested and lodged at the Douglas County Jail:
- James Teel, 57 - Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine
- Gina Cotton, 58 - Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Possession of Cocaine, Unlawful Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance
- Stephanie Wilson, 44 - Conspiracy to Possess and Deliver Methamphetamine
DINT said the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office assisted with the investigation.
The Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team is a multi-agency task force made up of members from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Roseburg Police Department, Oregon State Police, Douglas County District Attorney’s Office, and the Bureau of Land Management. The team is supported by the Oregon-Idaho HIDTA program and the Douglas County Board of Commissioners.

Umpqua Gem Show Returns To Roseburg In May With Carnelian, Crystals And Family Activities

Rockhounds, collectors and curious families will have a chance to dig into the region’s geology when the Umpqua Gem Show returns to Roseburg on May 2-3 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. The 54th annual show is presented by the Umpqua Gem & Mineral Club and will be held in Douglas Hall at 2110 SW Frear St.
According to the event website, this year’s show will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 2, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 3. Organizers describe it as a family-friendly event featuring 29 rock and gem vendors, along with displays, demonstrations, fluorescing rocks, raffles, a silent auction and activities for kids, including rock hunts.
The club’s website says visitors can expect aisles filled with rocks, minerals, fossils, crystals, jewelry and lapidary art from vendors and collectors across the region. It also highlights Oregon materials such as agates, jaspers, obsidian and petrified wood, alongside hand-crafted pieces and specialty mineral finds.
Among the attention-grabbing local finds promoted for the show is Douglas County carnelian, known for its rich iron color, glowing translucency and, in some pieces, crystal-lined centers formed in ancient volcanic pockets.
Vendor listings on the club’s website show a mix of businesses and makers from Roseburg, Winston, Oakland, Grants Pass, Medford, Jacksonville, Klamath Falls, Reedsport and beyond, underscoring the show’s draw for both local collectors and regional exhibitors.
The event is geared toward kids, families and gem and mineral collectors alike, with organizers encouraging visitors to come learn something new while exploring the wide range of specimens and displays on hand.

FOREST BRIDGES SUBMITS ALTERNATIVE MANAGEMENT PROPOSAL FOR BLM LANDS

Forest Bridges has submitted an alternative management proposal for western Oregon Bureau of Land Management lands.
A Forest Bridges release said more than ten years of collaboration between conservation, environmental, timber, Tribal, governmental and public interests has produced nearly 500 pages of scientific deliberation and Active Conservation Management proposals forming the alternative management plan delivered to BLM officials on March 22nd.
This is in response to the BLM’s February Notice of Intent to revise the 2016 resource management plans for approximately 2.46 million acres of BLM-administered western Oregon public lands. These include BLM O&C lands and Coos Bay Wagon Road lands.
The NOI states that the BLM’s primary goal is to increase sustained-yield timber harvest to nearly 1.1 billion board feet – the average from 1960 to 1989. After significantly dropping in the 1990’s, harvest volumes on these BLM lands have ranged from 45 to 275 million board feet since 2020.
Forest Bridges co-founder and board member Rick Sohn said, “Although the BLM’s stated primary purpose is timber harvest, returning to annual harvest levels in excess of a billion board feet is just too high to sustain”. Sohn said, “We stood committed to submitting an Alternative based on our collaborative’s Active Conservation Management Principles of Agreement and strategies”.
Forest Bridges Treasurer Denise Barrett said, “Our proposed Alternative estimates an annual harvest level of around 675 million board feet annually”. Barrett said, “This is early three times what the BLM harvested and would be achieved via a 30-year Active Conservation Management program in dry, moist and transitional – mixed dry-moist, BLM forests, which is then repeated to address forest conditions out of alignment with the pre-European contact Indigenous period”.
Forest Bridges President Elin Miller said, “Its time the divisive discord ends, and all of us in conservation, timber, Tribes, community and government come together to find common ground in resolving the devastating ecological impacts to our forests”. Miller said, “And with our Alternative we will achieve that, boost rural economies and protects the health of all Oregonians”.
