Roseburg Fire To Hold Live Fire Training On NE Fulton Street Sunday

Article by The Roseburg Receiver

Roseburg residents near NE Fulton Street may see smoke, flames, fire engines and additional activity Sunday morning as local firefighters take part in a controlled live fire training exercise.

The Roseburg Fire Department said the training will take place at 233 NE Fulton Street on Sunday, June 7, 2026, starting around 8 a.m. and continuing until about noon. The exercise will be held in partnership with Central Douglas County Fire & Rescue.

The training is designed to give firefighters realistic, hands-on experience in a controlled environment. Crews are expected to work through multiple fire scenarios focused on fire behavior, fire development and extinguishment.

Residents in the area should not be alarmed if they see smoke or flames coming from the structure during the exercise. Fire officials said the training will be supervised and conducted by certified fire instructors.

People nearby may also notice increased noise from fire apparatus, equipment and instructor communications. Those with respiratory concerns, pets or health sensitivities may want to keep windows closed while the exercise is underway.

Fire officials are also asking the public to stay out of the training area and avoid approaching the scene. A safety perimeter will be in place while crews are working.

Firefighters may remain at the property after the live fire portion of the training wraps up while crews complete cleanup and make sure the site is secure.

The Roseburg Fire Department thanked the property owners for allowing the structure to be used for training, saying live fire exercises are an important part of preparing firefighters for real emergencies.

Anyone with questions or concerns can contact Administrative Battalion Chief Chris Galligan at 541-492-6770 or roseburgfire@roseburgor.gov.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife’s Umpqua Fish District will host an informational update on local fisheries on Thursday, June 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Roseburg.

The meeting will be held at the ODFW conference room, located at 4192 N. Umpqua Highway. A virtual option will also be available for those who cannot attend in person.

ODFW says the meeting will focus on several fisheries topics important to the Umpqua Basin and local anglers, including:

  • A recap of the 2025 salmon and steelhead fishing seasons
  • An update on Rock Creek Hatchery
  • The Coastal Multispecies Conservation and Management Plan
  • Fall Chinook forecasts, tentative seasons and possible adjustments
  • Oregon Coast Coho status in the Umpqua Basin
  • Hatchery coho releases
  • Time for public questions and comments

Because space is limited, those who plan to attend in person are encouraged to reserve a seat by calling 541-440-3353.

Community members may also submit questions or comments before the meeting by emailing Evan Leonetti at evan.leonetti@odfw.oregon.gov or Chris Traill at christopher.a.traill@odfw.oregon.gov.

ODFW asks that submissions include the person’s name and contact information, along with whether they would like their question answered during the meeting or would like to read it themselves. Those who choose to read their question during the meeting will have three minutes.

The virtual meeting link is available here.

Those joining by phone can dial 1-503-446-4951 and use conference ID 235 470 741#.

ODFW says reasonable accommodations are available upon request, including assistive listening devices, sign language interpreters and materials in large print or audiotape. Accommodation requests should be made at least 48 hours before the meeting by contacting Evan Leonetti at 541-464-2175.

Volunteers Needed for 2026 Music Off Central Season in Sutherlin

Article by The Roseburg Receiver

SUTHERLIN — Music Off Central is preparing for another summer of live music, community connection and downtown fun, and organizers are looking for volunteers to help make each concert a success.

The annual concert series brings people together in Sutherlin for evenings of music, food, friends and family-friendly entertainment. Volunteers play a key role in keeping each event running smoothly, from helping with roadblocks and setup support to assisting with safety, cleanup and end-of-night takedown.

Organizers said there are several volunteer roles available, with opportunities for people who can help for a few hours or stay for the full evening.

Current volunteer needs include:

Event Support

Volunteers are needed for several event support positions, including roadblock coverage at various locations from about 3 to 8:30 p.m.

Rovers are also needed from 3 to 8:30 p.m. to provide floating support, help cover breaks and assist where needed throughout the event.

There is also one remaining opening for Community Center help from 4:15 to 7:30 p.m.

Safety and Monitoring

Multiple volunteers are needed to help with security and monitoring during the concerts. Security shifts are available from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and 6 to 9:30 p.m.

Cleanup and End-of-Night Help

Organizers are also seeking volunteers to help with cleanup as the evening winds down. Trash detail volunteers are needed from 7 to 9 p.m., with multiple spots available.

Several volunteers are also needed for the Bucket Brigade around 7:30 p.m.

At the end of each concert, around 9 p.m., a takedown crew will help break down equipment and carry items back to storage. Organizers said three strong individuals would be especially appreciated for that role.

2026 Music Off Central Lineup

This year’s lineup includes a mix of tribute acts, country, pop, dance hits and classic favorites:

  • June 25: One Way Out PDX, an Allman Brothers tribute
  • July 2: Honky Tonk Circus, featuring 90s country
  • July 9: Hit Machine, featuring pop and dance hits
  • July 16: Sleepless Truckers, featuring outlaw country
  • July 23: Forjoury, a Foreigner and Journey tribute
  • July 30: Super Diamond, a Neil Diamond tribute
  • August 6: Roll On, an Alabama tribute

Organizers said there is a place for anyone interested in helping, whether they prefer working behind the scenes, assisting with safety, interacting with attendees or helping with cleanup.

Those interested in volunteering are asked to reply to the original volunteer email or reach out directly with their availability and preferred role or roles. Community members are also encouraged to share the opportunity with friends, family or coworkers who may want to get involved.

Music Off Central organizers said volunteers are an important part of bringing live music and community connection to life in Sutherlin each summer.
