Warmer, Drier Weather Starts the Week in Southern Oregon

Southern Oregon will start June with warmer and drier weather as an upper ridge builds over the region, bringing above-normal temperatures Monday and Tuesday.

The National Weather Service in Medford said daytime highs are expected to run about 5 to 10 degrees above normal across southern Oregon and northern California to begin the week. West side valleys, including the Roseburg area, are expected to reach the mid to upper 80s, while some valleys farther south and east could see low 90s by Tuesday afternoon.

For Roseburg, the forecast calls for sunny skies Monday with a high near 84. Monday night is expected to be mostly clear with a low around 53. Tuesday is forecast to bring increasing clouds and a high near 87, followed by a mostly cloudy Tuesday night with a low around 54.

A weak front is expected to move through the area Wednesday, bringing temperatures closer to seasonal levels. Rain chances remain low, around 10 to 30 percent, and are mainly limited to the coast and Cascades. The front is not expected to bring major impacts, aside from some afternoon breezes.

Roseburg’s Wednesday forecast calls for partly sunny skies and a high near 75. Wednesday night is expected to be partly cloudy with a low around 51.

Looking toward the weekend, forecasters are watching a low pressure system approaching the Pacific Northwest late Friday. Current guidance suggests the system may split and track in a way that limits rainfall, especially for inland areas. Coastal showers appear more likely than widespread inland rain, while temperatures through the weekend are expected to be near or below seasonal levels.

Marine conditions remain more active, with gusty north winds and steep to very steep seas continuing into Monday night. Conditions are expected to improve Tuesday and Wednesday, though steep wind-built seas may return in southern waters late in the week.

No watches, warnings, or advisories are currently listed for inland southern Oregon or northern California.

Paid Leave Oregon Highlights Support For Foster Care Families

Article by The Roseburg Receiver

Oregon workers preparing to welcome a child through foster care may be eligible for paid leave before the placement happens and after the child joins their home.

Paid Leave Oregon said eligible resource parents, often called foster parents, and guardians may qualify for family leave during two important parts of the foster care process: the pre-placement period and the first year after a child is placed in the home.

The reminder comes as Foster Care Month comes to a close.

The program can help families take time away from work to bond with a child during the first year after placement. It can also help cover time needed before placement for required steps such as court appearances, home studies, counseling sessions, attorney consultations, physical examinations, or other placement-related requirements.

“Welcoming a child through foster care is a major transition, both for the child and for the family caring for them,” said Andrew R. Stolfi, director of the Oregon Employment Department. “Bonding leave gives eligible resource parents time to be present during those early days, to build trust and help a child feel safe and cared for.”

Paid Leave Oregon said pre-placement leave is intended to help families complete the work required before a child arrives. Bonding leave is meant to give families time after placement to focus on care, connection, and adjustment.

“Resource parents provide an essential service to children, families, and communities across Oregon,” said Juan Serratos, director of Paid Leave Oregon. “Pre-placement leave is intended to make that service easier for these families by giving them time to handle all the work that needs to happen before they welcome a child into their home.”

Eligible employees may take up to 12 weeks of paid leave in a benefit year. The program pays employees a percentage of their wages while they are on leave.

Families applying for bonding leave related to a foster care placement will need documentation showing the child’s placement. That may include a court order, a letter from an attorney, or documentation from a foster care agency, adoption agency, or social worker.

For pre-placement leave, documentation must confirm the intended foster care placement and must be dated within 180 days before the requested leave begins.

More information about family leave, including bonding leave and pre-placement leave, is available at paidleave.oregon.gov.

Winston Library Announces 2026 Summer Reading Program

Article by The Roseburg Receiver

The Winston Library is inviting families to take part in its 2026 Summer Reading Program, with a lineup of mostly Tuesday afternoon activities planned for kids throughout the summer.

This year’s theme is “Plant a Seed, Read,” encouraging children to keep reading while school is out and enjoy fun, hands-on activities at the library.

Programs will be held mostly on Tuesdays at 1 p.m., beginning June 23. The schedule includes a tie-dye activity, a STEAM program with the UCC Hub, music from the Douglas County Youth Orchestra, balloons, crazy creatures, and a magic show.

The first event is set for June 23 with a tie-dye activity. Participants are asked to bring their own item to dye, and items must be clean and dry. The library also notes that children should wear play clothes for activities marked with an asterisk.

The full schedule includes:

  • June 23: Tie Dye, bring your own clean and dry item
  • June 30: STEAM with the UCC Hub
  • July 7: Douglas County Youth Orchestra
  • July 14: Bob’s Looney Balloons
  • Thursday, July 23: Victoria Carnate Crazy Creatures
  • July 28: Magic Show

The Winston Library Summer Reading Program is free and open to the community. Families are encouraged to stop by, take part in the activities, and help kids stay connected to reading all summer long.
