$10 Million Hometown Fund Launches To Support Major Roseburg Projects

Article by The Roseburg Receiver

ROSEBURG, Ore. — A major new investment aimed at shaping the future of Roseburg was announced this week, as The Ford Family Foundation unveiled a $10 million “Hometown Fund” designed to support large, community-driven projects over the next decade.

In an interview with The Roseburg Receiver, Kara Inae Carlisle, president and CEO of The Ford Family Foundation, and Keavy Cook, vice president of programs, said the fund is intended to build on local momentum already underway in Roseburg.

The fund will focus on projects within Roseburg city limits and is intended to support efforts that bring partners together, create visible impact, and help build long-term opportunity for children, families, and the broader community.

“This is us following the community’s lead,” said Kara Inae Carlisle, president and CEO of The Ford Family Foundation. “There’s a lot of momentum in Roseburg right now, and this is an invitation to build together.”

More information about the Hometown Fund, including eligibility details and how to apply, is available at tfff.org/grants/hometown. The foundation’s announcement is also available at tfff.org/foundation-launches-hometown-fund.

A Fund Rooted In Community Momentum

Foundation leaders say the Hometown Fund is a direct response to what they are seeing across Roseburg, a growing level of collaboration and shared vision among community leaders.

“It’s one of the least self-interested groups of institutional leaders that I’ve ever worked with,” Carlisle said. “People are really trying to figure things out together.”

That collaboration spans education, business, healthcare, local government, tribal leadership, and nonprofit organizations, all increasingly working across sectors rather than independently.

Partial Ford’s Pond Trail Closure Planned April 28-29 For Herbicide Treatment

Article by The Roseburg Receiver

SUTHERLIN, Ore. — A portion of the Ford’s Pond loop trail will be closed Tuesday, April 28, through Wednesday, April 29, while crews apply herbicide to invasive species in the northwest portion of the park.

Friends of Ford’s Pond said the closure will affect the section of the pond loop trail between the Highway 138 parking lot and the bird observation area. The remainder of the pond loop trail is expected to remain open.

The treatment is part of a prairie restoration project at Ford’s Pond. Organizers said the work is intended to reduce invasive plants and help increase native wildflowers in the area.

Visitors are asked to avoid the closed section of trail during the treatment period.

Pedestrian Killed In Highway 42 Crash Near Winston

Article by The Roseburg Receiver

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. — A pedestrian died Saturday night after being struck by a vehicle on Highway 42 near milepost 76 in Douglas County, according to Oregon State Police.

OSP said troopers responded at 10:59 p.m. Saturday, April 25, to a single-vehicle fatal crash involving a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation found that a red Ford Focus, driven by Leo Thomas Durden III, 38, of Roseburg, was traveling westbound on Highway 42 with a green light when it struck Vivian Kuntz, 40, of Eugene.

According to OSP, Kuntz was crossing from Grant Smith Road toward Highway 99 without a walk signal. Kuntz was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Durden and his passenger, Caitlinn Ann Durden, 35, of Roseburg, were not injured.

The highway was impacted for about four hours while investigators worked at the scene.

OSP was assisted by Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the Winston Police Department, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The crash remains under investigation by Oregon State Police.

CON-VEY WINS TOP WORKPLACES FOR ENGINEERING AWARD

Article by KQEN News Radio

Con-Vey has been awarded a Top Workplaces 2026 honor by Top Workplaces for Engineering.

A company release said this list is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by employee management technology partner Energage LLC. The confidential survey uniquely measures the employee experience and its component themes, including employees feeling Respected & Supported, Enabled to Grow, and Empowered to Execute, to name a few.

Energage CEO Eric Rubino said, “Earning a Top Workplaces award is a badge of honor for companies, especially because it comes authentically from their employees”. Rubino said, “That’s something to be proud of. In today’s market, leaders must ensure they’re allowing employees to have a voice and be heard. That’s paramount. Top Workplaces do this, and it pays dividends”.

The release said for Con-Vey, the recognition reflects decades of commitment to building not only innovative industrial automation solutions, but also a workplace culture rooted in ownership, curiosity and connection.

Con-Vey President Jeremy Goebel said, “this award is especially meaningful because it comes directly from our team”. Goebel said, “We’ve always believed that when you invest in people – when you listen, provide opportunities, and give them the tools to succeed – you build something stronger than a company. You build a culture that drives innovation and long-term success”.

Mechanical Engineering Manager Mike Mercker said, “Our engineers thrive when they’re challenged, trusted and supported”. Mercker said, “That culture translates into better collaboration, smarter solutions, and ultimately better outcomes for the industries we serve”.
