Roseburg Schools Opens Enrollment For 2026-27 School Year

ROSEBURG, Ore. — Enrollment is now open for the 2026-27 school year in Roseburg Schools, with district officials encouraging families of new, returning and re-enrolling students to complete the process online.
The district said online enrollment is required for all students in those categories. Families can find enrollment instructions, parent portal links and a list of required documents on the district’s website.
District leaders said the goal is to make enrollment as straightforward and accessible as possible while helping families learn more about the academic and extracurricular opportunities available across Roseburg Schools.
Superintendent Jared Cordon said the district is focused on helping students graduate with direction and confidence for what comes next.
“Our goal is to ensure every student leaves Roseburg Schools with a plan and a sense of purpose,” Cordon said. “Whether that path leads directly into a career, continued education or both, we are creating opportunities for students to explore their interests, build skills and see what’s possible for their future.”
According to the district, Roseburg Schools emphasizes core academics such as reading, writing and math while also giving students opportunities to explore future careers, college options and community involvement from an early age through high school.
One of the district’s major areas of focus is its expanding career pathway system, which connects classroom instruction with hands-on learning and workforce opportunities. Through partnerships with Umpqua Community College and regional employers, students can explore areas including health care, manufacturing, agriculture and business. In some cases, students can earn college credit or industry-recognized credentials before graduating.
Roseburg Schools also highlighted a range of programs and services available to students, including:
Academic enrichment and support
- Advanced Placement and dual credit courses
- Talented and Gifted services
- Robotics opportunities at all grade levels
- Music programs at all elementary schools
- Elementary garden programs
- School psychologists and other student support services
- Early literacy activities designed to support families
College and career preparation
- Career pathway programs tied to local workforce needs
- Dual credit opportunities through Umpqua Community College
- Career and Technical Education programs
- Career and Technical Student Organizations such as FFA, FBLA, FCCLA and HOSA
- Work-based learning opportunities and industry partnerships
Athletics and extracurricular activities
- Competitive athletic programs
- Student leadership and service opportunities
- Theater, band and choir programs
- A variety of school clubs and activities
The district also announced that all elementary schools will hold Kindergarten Roundup events from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on May 13. The events are intended to give incoming kindergarten students and their families an opportunity to visit their school, meet staff and become familiar with the campus before the school year begins.
Families who cannot attend Kindergarten Roundup or who need help with enrollment are encouraged to contact their child’s school directly.
District officials said their broader mission extends beyond classroom instruction, with an emphasis on meaningful learning experiences, strong relationships, critical thinking and curiosity.
Enrollment for the 2026-27 school year is open now, and families are being encouraged to complete the process early and contact their school if they have questions.
Aviva Health Names Patrick Hull Interim CEO

ROSEBURG, Ore. — Aviva Health has named Patrick Hull as its interim chief executive officer, effective immediately, according to the organization’s board of directors.
Hull brings more than 30 years of healthcare leadership experience to the role. Most recently, he served as executive director and CEO of the VA Roseburg Health Care System.
The appointment comes as Aviva Health says its clinics, programs and services will continue operating without interruption.
In announcing the leadership change, the organization said it remains focused on continuing care for the communities it serves and maintaining normal operations across its network.
Douglas County Cheer Prepares For 10th Anniversary Season, Registration Set For April 16

WINSTON, Ore. — Douglas County Cheer is preparing to launch its 10th anniversary season this spring, continuing a mission that organizers say has always centered on affordability, inclusion, and giving local youth a place to grow.
The non-competitive youth cheer program is open to Douglas County students who will be in second through eighth grade during the 2026-27 school year. Registration and a parent information meeting are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on April 16 at the Winston Senior Center.
Founded in 2017, Douglas County Cheer was created to give children a chance to participate in cheerleading without the high cost and travel demands that often come with competitive programs.

Winter Weather Advisory Issued As Midweek Storm Moves In
ROSEBURG, Ore. — A stronger storm system is expected to move into southern Oregon on Wednesday, bringing widespread rain to the Umpqua Valley, heavy snow in the Cascades, gusty winds east of the mountains, and the potential for freezing overnight temperatures later in the week.
According to the National Weather Service in Medford, Tuesday is expected to remain relatively calm, with slightly warmer daytime highs and lingering clouds west of the Cascades. Conditions are expected to change later Tuesday evening as a cold front moves inland.
Forecasters said coastal areas could receive 1 to 1.5 inches of rain by Wednesday, with coastal ranges seeing around 2 inches. In the Umpqua Valley, rainfall totals are expected to range from 0.75 to 1 inch, while other inland valleys and basins are forecast to see somewhat lower amounts.
Snow levels are expected to remain between 4,500 and 5,500 feet through Wednesday morning, keeping the greatest winter impacts focused on the Cascades. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 11 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Thursday for areas near and north of Crater Lake above 5,000 feet. The weather service said 12 to 16 inches of snow are possible in the Cascades on Wednesday, with periods of snowfall rates reaching up to 1 inch per hour late Wednesday morning into early afternoon.
Winds are also expected to increase Wednesday, especially across higher terrain east of the Cascades. Gusts along Winter Rim and the Warner Mountains could reach 45 mph, while more widespread gusts of 20 to 30 mph are forecast across east side locations.
Conditions are expected to improve Wednesday evening, but colder air behind the system may bring frost and freezing conditions to some west side valleys overnight. The National Weather Service said valleys in the Rogue, Applegate, Illinois, and western Klamath County areas could see lows in the mid-20s to low 30s, while areas east of the Cascades may drop into the teens and low 20s.
Thursday is expected to be quieter, with snow levels falling to 1,500 to 2,000 feet in the morning, though decreasing precipitation should limit lower-elevation impacts. Warmer and drier weather is then expected Friday and Saturday before another potentially active system approaches the region this weekend.
ROSEBURG CITY COUNCIL WITH SPECIAL MEETING TUESDAY EVENING

Roseburg City Council will have a special meeting Tuesday evening.
Councilors will gather at 6:00 p.m. to discuss the recruitment process for a new city manager to replace Nikki Messenger, who recently announced plans to retire in June. The council will meet with GMP Consultants to go over the process of finding a new leader for the city. They will talk about the search schedule as well.
No audience participation is scheduled for this special meeting. It will be held in the council chambers on Southeast Douglas Avenue. The meeting can be seen on the city’s Facebook page or viewed later through a link at: https://roseburgor.gov/
STATE PLACES ATRIO HEALTH PLANS UNDER SUPERVISION

The Oregon Division of Financial Regulation announced on Monday that it has issued an order of supervision for ATRIO Health Plans Inc, because of concerns over ATRIO’s financial condition.
A DFR release said that the company has suffered excessive operating losses over the past 12 months. Additionally, the financial condition of the company has created a backlog that has caused provider payments to go unpaid. As the solvency regulator, this situation has caused DFR to take action.
As of March 2026, Atrio enrolled a total of about 35,340 Oregonians in its Medicare Advantage plans. The enrollees are in Douglas, Clackamas, Jackson, Josephine, Klamath, Lane, Marion, Multnomah, Polk, Washington and Yamhill counties.
An order of supervision allows DFR to have a representative on site and in control of all financial decisions to ensure that consumers are protected. The order prohibits ATRIO and its directors, officers, employees, and others affiliated with the company from taking several actions, including withdrawing from any of ATRIO’s bank accounts, lending or investing any of ATRIO’s funds, transferring any of ATRIO’s property or a number of other actions.
The release said DFR took this action because of ATRIO’s excessive operating losses, and inadequate capital and surplus. Capital and surplus is the amount a company’s assets exceed its liabilities.
More information from the Oregon Division of Financial Regulation is available at: https://dfr.oregon.gov/pages/index.aspx
Atrio Health Plans Roseburg office is at 2270 Northwest Aviation Drive.
