Douglas County Voter Turnout Reaches 32.90%, Running Ahead of 2022 Election
Douglas County voter turnout has reached 32.90%, with 29,425 ballots returned as of October 28. Participation is 1.76 percentage points ahead of the same point in 2022. With Election Day approaching, officials are reminding voters about ballot drop boxes, tracking and signature verification.
ROSEBURG, Ore. - With less than a week remaining before Election Day, Douglas County voters have returned 29,425 ballots for the November 3 general election, bringing local voter participation to 32.90%.
According to the Douglas County Clerk's Office, the latest participation rate is 1.76 percentage points higher than it was at the same point during the 2022 November General Election.
The figures, released Wednesday, October 28, show that nearly one-third of registered voters in Douglas County have already returned their ballots.
With Election Day now just five days away, election officials are reminding residents to return their ballots on time and make sure their ballot envelopes are properly signed.
Voters Can Use Any Official Oregon Ballot Drop Box
Douglas County voters are not required to return their ballots within the county. Under Oregon's statewide voting system, voters may use any official ballot drop box in Oregon, regardless of where they are registered.
However, the County Clerk's Office encourages residents to use a Douglas County drop box when possible, as doing so may help expedite local ballot processing.
Registered voters who have not received their ballots should contact or visit the Douglas County Clerk's Office as soon as possible.
Voters can also monitor the status of their ballots through Oregon's ballot tracking service, which provides updates from the time a ballot is mailed until it has been accepted for counting.
The service is available at OregonVotes.gov/Track.
How Ballots Are Verified Before Counting
The County Clerk's Office also provided information Wednesday about the steps election workers take before ballots are counted.
When a completed ballot arrives at an elections office, officials first verify voter eligibility and process the ballot return envelope. Once the required checks are completed, the ballot is separated from its envelope and prepared for tabulation.
One of the most important steps in that process is signature verification.
Every returned ballot envelope undergoes a signature review. Trained election staff compare the signature on the envelope with the signature maintained in the voter's registration record.
If a signature is missing or does not match the signature on file, election officials notify the voter and provide an opportunity to resolve the issue.
Under Oregon election procedures, voters generally have 21 days after Election Day to correct a missing or challenged signature, subject to applicable requirements.
This process allows election officials to verify ballots while giving voters an opportunity to address signature problems before their ballots are rejected.
Election Day Is November 3
The November General Election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
Voters returning ballots through an official drop box must do so by 8 p.m. on Election Day. Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked by November 3 and received within Oregon's required timeframe to qualify for counting.
Election officials also remind voters to sign their ballot return envelopes before submitting them.
With participation already running ahead of the comparable point in 2022, additional ballot returns in the final days before Election Day will determine the county's final turnout.
Residents can find additional election information, including ballot return options and voter resources, through the Douglas County Clerk's Office or the Oregon Secretary of State's Elections Division.
