ROSEBURG, Ore. - Southwest Oregon is expected to see a warming trend through Saturday, with daytime highs running above normal before cooler, wetter conditions return later in the weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Medford.

Forecasters said skies will gradually clear Thursday morning into the afternoon as the upper low that brought recent unsettled weather moves east of the region. Cool morning temperatures are expected to give way to slightly above-normal highs Thursday, with additional warming expected Friday.

The Weather Service said the warmer pattern is expected to continue into Saturday, though a weak upper low moving into northern and central California could begin increasing the chance for showers and a slight chance of thunderstorms by then.

Shower chances Saturday are expected to range from 20% to 50%, with the highest chances across Northern California. Some of that activity could extend north into southern Oregon, especially from the Cascades east. Forecasters said thunderstorm chances Saturday remain slight, generally between 10% and 20%.

By Sunday, a broader upper trough is expected to settle over the region, bringing additional chances for showers and cooler temperatures into Monday.

According to the forecast, the highest chances for showers Sunday and Monday - generally 30% to 60% - are expected from the Cascades east and across Northern California. West of the Cascades in southwest Oregon, including areas such as Roseburg, shower chances are lower, generally around 15% to 30%.

The National Weather Service also indicated there is a low chance, around 10%, for isolated thunderstorms Sunday and Monday.

Temperatures are expected to trend cooler Sunday and Monday, with highs near or slightly below normal.

Looking ahead to Tuesday and Wednesday, forecasters said warmer temperatures are favored again, with only low chances for showers.

Marine conditions are expected to remain hazardous for small craft through Thursday night, with steep seas and gusty north winds, especially south of Cape Blanco. Winds and seas are expected to ease somewhat Friday before improving further over the weekend.

No watches, warnings, or advisories are in effect for inland portions of southwest Oregon or Northern California.
