YMCA Offers Job Preparation and Aquatics Training for Local Teens

ROSEBURG, Ore. - Teens preparing to apply for their first jobs can get help with resumes, interviews and meeting local employers through a four-week program beginning October 7 at the YMCA of Douglas County.

The YMCA’s Teen Workforce Development Program, offered in collaboration with Recruit HIPPO and local employers, is open to ages 14 to 18. Sessions meet Wednesdays from 2:30 to 4 p.m., October 7 through 28.

Participants will learn what employers look for when hiring, build a resume, practice interviewing and meet local employers. The timing gives teens an opportunity to prepare before businesses hire for the holiday season.

The YMCA is also offering two certification courses for people interested in working in aquatics.

A Swim Instructor Certification Course begins October 24 for participants ages 16 and older. The course provides training to pursue work as a swim instructor. Course costs may be reimbursed after 90 days of regularly scheduled employment as a swim instructor with the YMCA of Douglas County.

A Lifeguard Certification Course begins December 19 and is open to teens and adults ages 15 and older. Participants who successfully complete the required swim test and course can earn certification to pursue lifeguarding jobs while learning lifesaving skills.

Registration is open for all three programs. Schedules, costs, requirements and registration details are available on the YMCA of Douglas County’s Education page.
