Virtual Feeding Seminar to Help School Teams Improve Student Safety

A two-day virtual seminar focused on safe feeding practices in educational settings will be held Oct. 22 and 23.

The Regional and Statewide Services for Students with Orthopedic Impairments program, known as RSOI, is hosting the conference for professionals who work with students who have complex feeding and swallowing needs.

The seminar is intended for educators and professionals working in administration, speech-language pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, dietetics, and nursing. Parents and full-time college students are also welcome to participate.

Sessions will help school feeding teams review their current practices and establish goals that support student safety. Topics will include ethical decision-making, mealtime assessments, feeding plan implementation, and other areas related to feeding students in educational programs.

Registration costs $205 for the full two-day conference. The cost is $105 for parents of children experiencing disabilities and full-time college students. Douglas Education Service District employees may register for $155.

Participants may receive certificates of attendance for up to 13 contact hours following the seminar.

RSOI provides training, technical assistance, resources, and referrals for professionals and families supporting children and students with orthopedic impairments from birth through age 21. The program is funded by the Oregon Department of Education’s Office of Special Education.
