Riddle Elementary to Reopen Monday After Bat Activity Cleared
Riddle Elementary School will reopen Monday, Sept. 14, after the building was cleared of bat activity and sanitation work was successfully completed.
RIDDLE, Ore. - Riddle Elementary School will reopen Monday, Sept. 14, after the building was cleared of bat activity and sanitation work was completed.
Riddle School District shared the update with families after the school was closed last week due to continued bat activity inside the building.
“Great news! We have just received notice that Riddle Elementary is clear of bat activity, and the sanitation process has been successfully completed,” the district said.
Students were initially sent home Friday, Sept. 4, after bats were found inside the school. The building reopened the following Tuesday, but additional bat activity prompted another closure while the district conducted inspections, cleaning and bat-removal work.
Throughout the process, district officials said they worked with the Douglas Public Health Network, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and a professional bat specialist.
The district thanked families for their patience, understanding and support and said it is excited to welcome students and staff back Monday.
