Roseburg Elks Charity Auto Show Returns to UCC Saturday for Fifth Annual Event

WINCHESTER, Ore. - Hundreds of wheels, years of automotive history and a community fundraiser will come together Saturday as the Roseburg Elks Charity Auto & Motorcycle Show returns to Umpqua Community College for its fifth annual event.

The show will be held Saturday, September 12, at UCC and is open to cars, trucks and motorcycles. Also known as the UCC Back to School Auto Extravaganza and Street Fair, the event has grown beyond a traditional car show to include vendors, family activities, entertainment and fundraising for programs at UCC and through Roseburg Elks Lodge #326.

Organizers say all makes and models are welcome, with a variety of vehicle classes represented. The accompanying street fair will feature crafters and other vendors along with activities and games for families.

Entertainment is also scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

A Car Show Built Around Giving Back

The event traces its roots to Roseburg Elks member and automobile enthusiast Bruce Pettengill, who envisioned a local car show that could bring vehicle enthusiasts together while raising money for the community.

According to the Roseburg Elks, Pettengill became aware of needs involving student activities and maintenance of the memorial at Umpqua Community College and began working to turn the idea into an annual fundraiser.

The effort started in 2020, although the COVID-19 pandemic prevented organizers from holding the actual car show that year. Pettengill kept the fundraising effort moving through an RV raffle instead.

The first full auto show was held in 2021.

Since then, organizers say the show has continued to grow, drawing more attention while increasing the amount of money available for charitable giving. The event's history now includes several years of winners across categories such as Ford, GM, Mopar, foreign vehicles, motorcycles, pickups, fan favorites and Best in Show.

Saturday's event marks the fifth actual Roseburg Elks Charity Auto Show.

Proceeds Stay Connected to the Community

The event isn't only about the vehicles on display.

Net proceeds from the show support several causes connected to UCC, including:

• The UCC endowment
• Maintenance of the memorial at the college
• Student activities

Proceeds also help support Roseburg Elks Lodge #326 charitable efforts, including programs serving veterans, drug awareness initiatives, scholarships and other community programs.

That community involvement has deep roots in Roseburg.

Roseburg Elks Lodge #326 was established on January 8, 1896, making 2026 its 130th year in the community. The lodge says its local work over the years has included scholarships, vocational scholarships, youth drug-awareness programs, the Elks Hoop Shoot, back-to-school assistance, donations of books and school supplies and programs supporting veterans and their families.

Cars, Trucks and Motorcycles Welcome

Vehicle registration Saturday will be open from 7 to 10 a.m., with participants required to be in line by 10 a.m. Pre-registration has closed, but owners can still register a vehicle at the gate for $30.

The show is open to a broad range of vehicles rather than being limited to a particular year, manufacturer or style. Organizers describe it as an opportunity for car, truck and motorcycle enthusiasts to show off their vehicles while supporting charitable needs in Douglas County.

Alongside the vehicle show, visitors can explore the street fair, meet local vendors and crafters and take part in family-oriented activities throughout the day.

For organizers, the fifth anniversary also represents how far an idea centered on cars and community giving has come since plans for the first event were interrupted six years ago.

What began as Pettengill's vision for using a shared enthusiasm for automobiles to help local students and community programs has developed into an annual September tradition at UCC.
