A 70-year-old North Bend woman was cited after Roseburg police said hot coffee was thrown on a nurse at Mercy Medical Center, causing second-degree burns and blistering while the nurse was performing care duties.

A 70-year-old North Bend woman was cited Tuesday evening after Roseburg police said hot coffee was thrown on a nurse at Mercy Medical Center.

According to the Roseburg Police Department, officers responded to Mercy Medical Center at 1700 Northwest Stewart Parkway on June 2 at about 5:45 p.m. for an assault report.

Police said a nurse was performing care duties when hot coffee was thrown on the nurse’s neck and chest. The coffee reportedly caused second-degree burns and blistering to the nurse’s chest and neck.

Paula Matthie, 70, of North Bend, was cited on charges of assault in the second degree and unlawful use of a weapon.

Police said Matthie was cited and released at the hospital because she was still a patient at the time of the citation.

The case was listed by Roseburg police as case number 263367.
