Abby’s Salad Bar Returns To Stephens Street Location In Roseburg

ROSEBURG, Ore. - Salad bar fans have something familiar back on the menu at Abby’s Legendary Pizza in Roseburg.
The company announced that its salad bar has returned at the remodeled Stephens Street parlor, with lunch availability seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Abby’s said customers can build their own fresh salad, with four options available: a small plate, large plate, unlimited salad bar option and a pizza combo.
The return was announced in a post from the Stephens Street Roseburg location, which read in part, “Welcome back, salad bar lovers!”
The company also clarified that the salad bar is only for salads and is not a full buffet.
The Stephens Street location is offering the returned salad bar exclusively at that remodeled parlor during the lunch window.
Saving Grace Humane Society Offering $50 Kitten Adoptions Through July 3

ROSEBURG, Ore. - Saving Grace Humane Society is hoping to help more kittens find homes this summer with a reduced adoption special running now through July 3.
During the promotion, all kittens are available to adopt for $50. The shelter is also encouraging families to consider adopting two kittens together, noting that young cats often do well with a built-in companion. Kittens can help keep each other entertained, learn important social skills together and may be less likely to get into mischief when they have a buddy.
Each adopted kitten goes home spayed or neutered, microchipped and current on age-appropriate vaccines and flea treatments.
Those interested in adopting can visit Saving Grace during open adoption hours, Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 6:30 p.m., to meet the kittens currently available.
For those who are not ready to adopt, the shelter is also asking people to consider fostering. Fostering allows Saving Grace to care for more animals by opening up space at the shelter while giving pets a temporary place to stay.
More information about adoption and fostering is available through Saving Grace Humane Society.
Grass Fire Near Dairy Loop Road Held To 2.2 Acres

ROSEBURG, Ore. - Firefighters from multiple local agencies responded Tuesday afternoon to a grass fire near the 1300 block of Dairy Loop Road in Roseburg.
The fire was reported at about 4:54 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23. Crews from the Douglas Forest Protective Association, Lookingglass Rural Fire District, Tenmile Rural Fire District and Central Douglas Fire & Rescue were called to the scene.
When firefighters arrived, they found a grass fire spreading at a moderate pace. The fire had also reached hay bales and a piece of equipment in the area.
Crews were able to quickly stop the forward spread of the fire, keeping it to a final GPS-mapped size of 2.2 acres.
DFPA said the hay bales and equipment are expected to continue burning for some time, which may produce visible smoke in the area. Firefighters will remain on scene while they work to fully extinguish the remaining heat.
Drivers traveling near Dairy Loop Road are asked to use caution and watch for emergency crews working along or near the roadway.
No evacuations have been issued for the fire.
DFPA said this will be the only public information released about the incident.
DFPA Live-Fire Training May Bring Visible Smoke To Parts Of Douglas County This Week

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ore. - Residents in parts of Douglas County may see smoke this week as the Douglas Forest Protective Association carries out planned live-fire training exercises.
The training is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, through Friday, June 26, at prepared sites in the 4000 block of North Bank Road in Roseburg and the 4000 block of Gazley Road in Myrtle Creek. Smoke may be visible in those areas between about 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
A separate training exercise is also planned for Friday, June 26, near the 20000 block of OR-138 in Elkton. Smoke may also be visible there during the same late-morning to early-afternoon window.
DFPA said the burns are part of ongoing firefighter training and will take place in areas that have been prepared ahead of time. Control lines have been built around each training site to help keep the fire contained while crews practice in a controlled setting.
The exercises give firefighters hands-on experience with wildland fire response, including fire suppression tactics, hose operations and coordination during an incident. DFPA’s newly onboarded camera detection staff and dispatch operators will also use the training to practice spotting, reporting and communicating about wildfire activity in a realistic environment.
The agency said the live-fire exercises will be conducted under the supervision of experienced instructors.
DFPA is reminding the public that the smoke is expected and tied to scheduled training. The agency said the work is an important part of preparing firefighters and support staff for wildfire season across the Douglas District.
Oregon Fire Officials Urge Safe, Legal Fireworks Use As Sales Begin
SALEM, Ore. - Fireworks sales are now underway in Oregon, and state fire officials are reminding residents to know the rules before lighting anything for the Fourth of July.
The 2026 retail fireworks sales season runs from June 23 through July 6. During that time, Oregonians can purchase consumer-legal fireworks from permitted stands and retailers, but the Oregon State Fire Marshal says people should check local restrictions before celebrating.
Rules can vary by city, county and fire district, especially in areas facing higher wildfire danger.
“Before lighting any fireworks, make sure you know what’s allowed where you are,” Oregon State Fire Marshal Assistant Chief Deputy Mark Johnston said.
In Oregon, fireworks that fly into the air, explode, or travel more than 12 feet across the ground are illegal without a permit from the state fire marshal. That includes bottle rockets, Roman candles and firecrackers.
Violating Oregon fireworks laws is a Class B misdemeanor and can carry a fine of up to $2,500. People who misuse fireworks may also be responsible for fire suppression costs or damage caused by a resulting fire. Parents can be held liable for damage caused by their children.
Even legal fireworks are not allowed everywhere. State fire officials said consumer fireworks may not be used on public lands, national parks and forests, Bureau of Land Management lands, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service properties, Oregon state beaches, state parks, campgrounds or private lands protected by the Oregon Department of Forestry.
The fire marshal’s office is encouraging people to keep water nearby, keep children and pets back, avoid dry grass and other flammable areas, and soak used fireworks before throwing them away. Officials also warn people not to relight fireworks that fail to go off.
The agency’s message heading into the holiday is simple: keep it legal and keep it safe.
More information about Oregon fireworks laws, safety tips and retail permits is available through the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s fireworks resources.
Music On The Half Shell Opens Season With Warm, Well-Attended Night At Stewart Park

ROSEBURG, Ore. - Music on the Half Shell opened its 2026 season Tuesday night with a warm evening, a relaxed crowd and a strong first-show turnout at the Nichols Band Shell in Stewart Park.
The John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band kicked off the summer concert series, drawing families, couples and longtime Half Shell regulars to the park with lawn chairs, blankets and coolers spread across the hillside.
While the heat may have kept some people home early in the evening, the crowd continued to settle in as the sun dropped and temperatures eased.
“I thought it was a great turnout for the first concert,” one Music on the Half Shell board member said after the show. “It was very warm out, I think the heat kept some away, but once the sun started to set, it turned into a lovely night.”
The board member also praised Jorgenson, describing him as “a wonderful guitar player and vocalist” and noting his Grammy-winning background.
The evening had the feel of a classic Half Shell night, with people stretched out on blankets under the trees, kids gathered near the stage, and a hillside full of concertgoers taking in the music as the temperature eased.
Organizers said the night went smoothly overall, including for families in attendance.
“The kids were on their best behavior tonight,” the board member said. “It was an easy going, great night for sure.”
