Moon Mountain String Band to Close Myrtle Creek’s Music in the Park Tonight

MYRTLE CREEK, Ore. - Myrtle Creek’s Music in the Park will wrap up its 39th season Thursday night with bluegrass, newgrass and a chance for concertgoers to get a little closer to the instruments behind the music.

Moon Mountain String Band & Instrument Petting Zoo will take the stage from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at Millsite Park. The concert is free, with free parking available.

The seven-piece western Oregon band, based in the Eugene area, blends traditional bluegrass roots with a more modern "newgrass" style. Organizers describe the group as combining strong musicianship and rich harmonies with a contemporary approach to string-band music.

Thursday's season finale will offer something beyond the concert itself. The evening will include an Instrument Petting Zoo, an interactive experience designed to give attendees an opportunity to learn more about and interact with musical instruments.

The performance is sponsored by South Umpqua Disposal.

Thursday marks the final concert of the 2026 Music in the Park schedule, which has brought free live music to Myrtle Creek throughout the summer. This year marks the 39th season of the series, which is coordinated by the Myrtle Creek-Tri City Area Chamber of Commerce.

Those attending are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Food vendors are expected to be available at the park and nearby businesses. Dogs are also welcome as long as they are kept under control and owners clean up after them.

Music in the Park is held at Millsite Park in Myrtle Creek.
