One of the county's largest Veterans Day traditions will return to downtown Roseburg on Wednesday, November 11.

The 71st Annual Douglas County Veterans Day Parade is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m., continuing a tradition that dates back to 1955.

This year's parade theme is "Honoring America's 250th Anniversary – 1776-2026," recognizing the nation's upcoming semiquincentennial celebrations.

The parade will follow its traditional route, beginning at the intersection of NE Jackson Street and NE Diamond Lake Boulevard.

Participants will travel south along Jackson Street, turn left onto SE Lane Street, then left onto SE Main Street before concluding near the Douglas County Courthouse on SE Douglas Avenue.

County officials are encouraging spectators to gather along the entire parade route to recognize the participating veterans.

Additional parade information is available through the Douglas County Veterans Day Parade Committee.

County Participates in Operation Green Light

Douglas County commissioners have also proclaimed November 2026 as Veterans and Military Families Month.

As part of the observance, the county is participating in Operation Green Light, a nationwide initiative intended to recognize veterans and their families.

Throughout November, the front of the Douglas County Courthouse will be illuminated with green lights.

County officials are encouraging residents to participate by displaying a green light on their porch or exterior light fixtures during the month.

Veterans Day is observed annually on November 11, marking the anniversary of the armistice that ended fighting in World War I in 1918. Originally recognized in the United States as Armistice Day, the holiday was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor American military veterans.

Residents planning to visit county offices or use county services next week are encouraged to account for the Wednesday holiday closure.
