Canyonville DMV to Permanently Close Nov. 18

CANYONVILLE, Ore. - Oregon DMV will permanently close its Canyonville office at 241 NE Main St. effective Wednesday, Nov. 18, citing vacant positions, an expiring lease and staffing needs across the region.

Both positions at the two-person office are currently vacant. Since July, service has been reduced from three days a week to one day with limited hours, with employees from the Roseburg DMV traveling to Canyonville to staff the office.

Oregon DMV Field Services Manager David McKay said the upcoming lease expiration prompted the agency to evaluate whether keeping the location open was the best use of its resources.

According to McKay, demands on DMV have grown considerably over the past 25 years while staffing has remained largely unchanged. He said closing the Canyonville location will help provide more stable staffing for customers across the region.

Residents can access in-person services at the Roseburg DMV, about 26 miles from Canyonville. That office will continue serving customers five days a week. Class C driving tests are available through a third-party tester in Roseburg.

Some customers may be able to handle their DMV business without making the trip. The agency says it has added more than 30 online transactions to its DMV2U platform since launching it in 2019.

DMV encourages customers to check its website before visiting any office to confirm it is open and determine whether their transaction can be completed online.
