ROSEBURG, Ore. — YMCA Roseburg Junior Cheer is inviting local youth to take part in an upcoming cheer clinic and tryouts for its 2026-27 season.
According to the program, a cheer clinic is scheduled for April 18, with tryouts set for April 20 and April 22 at the YMCA of Douglas County courts. Organizers said the program is open to students currently in first through seventh grade, who will be in second through eighth grade next season.
Participants will learn tryout material during the clinic ahead of the two tryout dates. Tryouts are free and will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on April 20 and from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on April 22. The location is listed as the YMCA of Douglas County courts, using the skating rink entrance doors.
YMCA Roseburg Junior Cheer said the program is designed to help athletes grow in confidence, teamwork, and leadership while emphasizing the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
The organization said cheerleaders perform on the sidelines at Roseburg Youth Football and local middle school games, then compete statewide during the winter season. The program also serves as the official feeder program for Roseburg High School Cheer and Stunt.
Program leaders said the coaching staff includes four YMCA coaches with varied backgrounds. Coaches are trained in the OSAA Spirit Safety Course, NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, and Child Abuse Prevention.
Organizers said the goal of the program is to create a safe, supportive, and fun environment where athletes can build character, friendships, and confidence both on and off the mat.
