Winston Police Station Receives $2.34 Million Seismic Upgrade Grant
Winston Police Station is set for major seismic upgrades after the City of Winston was awarded a $2.34 million state grant to strengthen the building and help keep public safety services operating during a major earthquake or emergency.
WINSTON, Ore. — The Winston Police Station is expected to receive a major seismic upgrade after the City of Winston was awarded more than $2.3 million through a state grant program.
The Winston Police Department announced that the city has been awarded $2,345,358 through the State of Oregon’s Seismic Rehabilitation Grant Program, which is administered through the Oregon Business Development Department’s Infrastructure Finance Authority.
The money is intended to help strengthen the Winston Police Station so the building can better withstand a major earthquake or other emergency.
Why the project matters
Police stations are not just office buildings during a disaster. They often become key response centers where officers, staff and emergency equipment need to remain available when the community is under stress.
The planned work is aimed at improving the building’s structural resilience and helping make sure public safety services can continue during and after a significant emergency.
The upgrades are expected to help protect:
- Police officers and department staff
- Emergency equipment
- Members of the public using the facility
- Essential public safety operations during a disaster
Chief Brandon Sarti said the grant is an important investment in Winston’s emergency preparedness.
“This grant represents an important investment in the safety and preparedness of both our department and our community,” Sarti said. “We are grateful to the State of Oregon for recognizing the importance of ensuring that Winston’s police facility can continue serving residents during emergencies and natural disasters.”
What happens next
The project is not expected to begin immediately.
According to the department, state funding will become available after the bond sale process is completed and the required grant agreements are signed. Project work funded through the grant will begin after those agreements are finalized.
The Winston Police Department said it plans to work with city leadership, state partners and community stakeholders as the project moves forward.
More information about construction timelines and project updates will be shared with the public once those details are available.
