ROSEBURG, Ore. - Roseburg residents can expect another couple of days of mild, partly sunny weather before a cold front brings rain to the Umpqua Basin Saturday night and early Sunday. The change will also bring cooler temperatures, with a more active weather pattern expected to develop across Southern Oregon next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, high pressure will remain over the region through Saturday, keeping temperatures above normal for early November. Saturday is expected to be the warmest day of the weekend, with Roseburg reaching a high near 69 degrees.

The stretch of warmer weather will begin Friday, November 6, with partly sunny skies and a high near 66 degrees. Winds will remain calm throughout the day. Friday night will be partly cloudy, with temperatures falling to around 41 degrees.

Rain Expected Saturday Night

Saturday will begin with partly sunny skies and a high near 69 degrees. However, conditions will begin changing later in the afternoon as a Pacific weather system approaches the region.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a 30% chance of rain in Roseburg after 4 p.m. Winds will become southwesterly at 5 to 10 mph during the afternoon.

Rain is expected to become more widespread Saturday night, particularly between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m. Sunday. The chance of precipitation increases to 100%, with rainfall amounts between one-tenth and one-quarter of an inch possible in Roseburg.

South-southwest winds of 6 to 15 mph are expected overnight, with gusts potentially reaching 23 mph. Temperatures will remain relatively mild, with an overnight low near 48 degrees.

The approaching cold front is expected to bring the greatest rainfall amounts to coastal areas and portions of the Umpqua Basin, particularly the higher terrain of eastern Douglas County.

While some locations along the coast could receive around half an inch of rain or more, valley communities such as Roseburg are expected to see lighter totals.

Cooler Weather Returns Sunday

By Sunday morning, most of the rain is expected to move out of the Roseburg area.

The forecast calls for a 20% chance of rain before 10 a.m., followed by mostly cloudy skies and a high near 58 degrees. Winds should become calm as the system moves through.

Sunday night will remain mostly cloudy, with temperatures dropping to around 43 degrees.

The cooler conditions will mark a return to more typical November temperatures following the warmer weather Friday and Saturday.

Unsettled Weather Pattern Expected Next Week

The weekend system will be the beginning of a more active weather pattern across Southern Oregon.

According to the National Weather Service's forecast discussion issued at 4:06 a.m. Friday, additional weather disturbances are expected to move through the region Monday through Wednesday, bringing periods of light rain to areas west of the Cascades, including the Umpqua Basin.

Forecasters do not currently anticipate significant rainfall impacts during the first half of next week, although coastal communities will have a greater chance of accumulating measurable precipitation.

A potentially stronger weather pattern could begin developing Thursday and continue into Friday, November 13.

The National Weather Service says this later system could bring additional rainfall, stronger winds and possible snow at higher elevations. However, uncertainty remains regarding the timing, strength and exact impacts of the developing system.

Despite the expected changes, forecasters describe the overall seven-day outlook as relatively low impact.

For Roseburg residents, the main change will be the shift from mild, partly sunny weather to a wetter and cooler pattern beginning Saturday evening, with additional opportunities for rain throughout the coming week.
