Umpqua Valley Tennis Center To Celebrate New Tennis And Pickleball Courts Saturday
Umpqua Valley Tennis Center will celebrate its renovated outdoor court complex Saturday, May 9, with free community access, tennis and pickleball play, facility tours, barbecue, and a beer and wine garden.
ROSEBURG, Ore. — A major recreation upgrade in Roseburg will be celebrated this weekend as the Umpqua Valley Tennis Center opens its newly renovated outdoor court complex to the public.
The tennis center will hold a grand opening celebration from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at 1201 NW Stewart Parkway. The event is free and open to the community.
Visitors will be able to check out the new courts, play tennis or pickleball, tour the updated facility, and enjoy a barbecue. Food will include hamburgers and hot dogs, and a beer and wine garden is also planned.
The project brings a significant expansion to local outdoor court access, including:
- Eight tennis courts
- 10 dedicated pickleball courts
- New fencing
- Updated lighting
- Seating improvements
- A redesigned entryway
- Added security upgrades
The outdoor court renovation represents a $2.53 million investment in the facility. Funding came from a mix of public and community support, including a $750,000 state grant secured through Roseburg Parks and Recreation, $523,000 from the city, and more than $1.25 million in matching support raised by the Umpqua Valley Tennis Center through individuals, businesses, and foundations.
The celebration also comes as the center continues its transition under new leadership. Nathan Miller was recently named general manager and will help oversee operations, programming, outreach, and marketing.
For local players and families, the grand opening marks the completion of a project aimed at creating more opportunities for both tennis and pickleball in Roseburg.
