Umpqua National Forest Reopens Trailheads Following Castle Fire Closure

Three trailheads on the Tiller Ranger District have reopened after Umpqua National Forest lifted a closure related to the Castle Fire.

The Forest terminated Closure Order #06-15-02-26-04, effective immediately, reopening Lakes, Fish Lake, and Beaver Swamp trailheads.

Visitors returning to the area should remain alert for hazards left behind by the fire. The Forest cautioned that lifting an emergency closure does not mean the risks associated with recently burned areas have disappeared.

Hazards can include:

  • Falling trees and limbs.
  • Uneven or unstable ground, including holes left by burned root systems.
  • Falling rocks.
  • Trail sections that are difficult to navigate.
  • Landslides, debris flows, and flash floods.

High winds can increase those dangers, as can heavy rain and winter storms. Some risks remain elevated after storms have passed.

Visitors planning to use the reopened trailheads can review the Forest’s guidance on recreating in burned areas before heading out.
