UCC To Host Open House For Downtown Woolley Center And SBDC Relocation

Umpqua Community College will host an open house Wednesday to celebrate the relocation and renovation of two of its downtown Roseburg programs.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at 729 Southeast Jackson Street. Guests are asked to enter through the building’s front entrance on Jackson Street.

The open house will give community members a chance to tour the newly remodeled space and learn more about the Woolley Center and the Small Business Development Center, also known as the SBDC. Refreshments will be available during the event.

The move places both programs in a more central downtown location, with the goal of improving access to education, workforce preparation and business support services for students, entrepreneurs and community members.

UCC President Dr. Rachel Pokrandt said the college is continuing to invest in downtown Roseburg and in spaces that support opportunity, innovation and community connection.

“This beautiful facility allows us to better serve students and local businesses while expanding access to critical resources,” Pokrandt said.

The building, once home to Newberry’s Department Store, now also includes student housing on the upper floors. That housing area is known as Hawk’s Hideaway.

During the open house, guided tours of the student housing area will be offered in 15-minute intervals beginning at 4:00 p.m. Participants should meet near the elevator entrance to join a tour led by a student guide. Tours will be limited to five people at a time and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Woolley Center serves as UCC’s College and Career Readiness program. It helps students prepare for GED exams, improve English language skills and build academic skills in reading and math. The program also provides advising and support for people pursuing college, career or military pathways.

The SBDC is part of the Oregon Small Business Development Center Network. It provides free business advising, workshops and technical assistance for entrepreneurs, startups and established businesses.
