Three Simultaneous Incidents Stretch Roseburg Fire Resources Saturday Afternoon

ROSEBURG, Ore. - Roseburg firefighters and several neighboring agencies were called into action Saturday afternoon as three separate emergencies were reported within a span of just 14 minutes.

Between 3:51 p.m. and 4:05 p.m., crews responded to a vegetation fire, a reported structure fire and an airplane crash at the Roseburg Regional Airport.

Half-Acre Vegetation Fire

The first call came in at 3:51 p.m. for a natural cover fire near Hewitt Avenue and NE Stephens Street.

Firefighters arrived and quickly extinguished the fire, which grew to approximately half an acre.

The Douglas Forest Protective Association also responded and determined the fire was within its jurisdiction. Central Douglas Fire & Rescue and the Roseburg Police Department assisted at the scene.

Smoke Reported at Four-Plex

Just six minutes later, at 3:57 p.m., Roseburg firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire at a residential four-plex at 902 W. Stanton Street.

Crews arrived to find light smoke coming from the building's HVAC system. Firefighters shut off power to the system while investigating the source of the smoke.

Power to the HVAC system remained off and the property owner was notified.

Sutherlin Fire Department, Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, Avista Utilities and Pacific Power assisted with the response.

Airplane Crash at Roseburg Regional Airport

At 4:05 p.m., while crews were already handling the other incidents, firefighters were dispatched to a reported airplane crash at the Roseburg Regional Airport.

Firefighters arrived to find a single-engine passenger airplane in a field.

According to the Roseburg Fire Department:

• The pilot was not injured.
• No fire was reported.
• No fluids were released as a result of the crash.
• Air traffic was temporarily redirected.
• The Federal Aviation Administration was notified.

Multiple Agencies Assist

The Roseburg Fire Department said the three incidents occurring almost simultaneously demonstrated the importance of cooperation and interoperability between emergency agencies throughout Roseburg and Douglas County.

The department thanked both the agencies that responded and those that were dispatched and prepared to assist.
