Threatening Call Prompts Brief Secure Action At Brockway Elementary
Brockway Elementary and other Winston-Dillard schools briefly went into a secure action Wedneday after an anonymous threatening call. District officials said the threat was investigated, found to pose no danger, and normal operations resumed about an hour later.
WINSTON, Ore. — Brockway Elementary School and other Winston-Dillard schools briefly went into a secure action Wednesday morning after an anonymous phone call threatened violence against the elementary school, according to district officials.
In a ParentSquare message to parents and staff, Winston-Dillard School District Superintendent Kevin Wilson said Brockway Elementary received one of several anonymous threatening calls reported at schools and districts across Oregon this week.
After the call came in, staff contacted School Resource Officers, who responded within minutes and secured the perimeter of the campus, including the parking lot. As a precaution, all district schools were placed in a secure action.
Wilson said district officials consulted with the Winston Police Department and determined the threat did not pose a danger to the schools. The secure action was lifted about an hour later, and schools returned to normal operations.
The Winston Police Department is investigating the source of the threat.
Anyone with information about the threat, or anything related to school safety and security, is asked to contact Douglas County Non-Emergency Dispatch at 541-440-4471.
Concerns can also be reported through SafeOregon by text or phone at 844-472-3367, by email at tip@safeoregon.com, or through the SafeOregon online reporting portal.
Wilson said the district understands that safety procedures at schools can be unsettling for families. He said student well-being remains the district’s priority and credited the quick response by staff, School Resource Officers, and local officials.
