RUSA Completes $1 Million Solar and Battery Project at Roseburg Office

ROSEBURG, Ore. - A new solar and battery system at the Roseburg Urban Sanitary Authority’s main office is designed to cover the building’s annual electricity needs and keep essential office functions running during power outages.

RUSA and Ameresco marked the completion with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week. The $1 million installation is the first of three planned energy projects at the authority’s facilities.

According to Ameresco, the office’s 39.4-kilowatt solar array is expected to produce about 51,580 kilowatt-hours each year. A battery system provides 184 kilowatt-hours of storage to support critical administrative and operational work when grid power is interrupted.

Funding included an $870,870 grant through the Oregon Department of Energy’s Community Renewable Energy Program, along with support from Energy Trust of Oregon.

“Partnering with Ameresco allows us to modernize our facilities, safeguarding the long-term well-being of our community as a result,” RUSA General Manager Jim Baird said.

Two larger installations are planned next: a 900-kilowatt ground-mounted solar system at the wastewater treatment plant and a 400-kilowatt floating solar system at the natural treatment system. Ameresco said construction on both projects is expected to begin this fall.
