Roseburg to See Seasonable Temperatures, Dry Conditions Through the Weekend

ROSEBURG, Ore. - Roseburg and the Umpqua Valley are expected to remain seasonably warm and mostly dry through the weekend, with breezy afternoon conditions continuing as southern Oregon settles into a relatively quiet weather pattern.

The National Weather Service in Medford said Tuesday night that temperatures across the region should stay near or slightly below seasonal averages through the middle of the week. A modest warmup is expected heading into the weekend, but temperatures are still expected to remain fairly typical for mid-August.

For Roseburg, the forecast remains largely uneventful, with no significant storm activity currently expected. Dry conditions combined with occasional afternoon breezes will continue to keep fire weather concerns elevated, although forecasters expect those conditions to gradually improve.

Thunderstorm chances remain in the forecast for portions of southern Oregon and northern California on Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings. The best chances are expected over western Siskiyou County, the Cascades and northern portions of Klamath and Lake counties.

Those thunderstorm chances are currently only around 10% to 15% and have been trending downward. Roseburg and much of Douglas County remain west of the areas considered most likely to see storms.

Smoke will also continue to affect portions of Klamath, Lake and Modoc counties because of the Wrights Spring Fire. Overnight winds may allow smoke to settle into some communities before afternoon breezes push it eastward. The Weather Service did not identify Roseburg as an area expected to experience significant smoke from the fire.

Looking toward early next week, forecasters are watching a low-pressure system expected to move south over the Pacific Ocean before eventually turning northeast toward the region.

That system could bring slightly cooler temperatures and potentially increase the chance of precipitation across parts of southern Oregon during the middle of next week. Forecast confidence remains limited, however, with weather models differing on the timing and location of any rain.

For now, Roseburg can expect a continuation of typical August weather, with warm afternoons, dry conditions and occasional breezes through the weekend.
