Roseburg Cools Down After Reaching 93 Degrees Wednesday
After reaching 93 degrees Wednesday, Roseburg is headed for a sharp cooldown. Highs will fall into the 70s Friday and mid-60s Saturday, when showers and possible thunderstorms return.
ROSEBURG, Ore. - A brief stretch of late-summer heat is coming to an end in Roseburg, with temperatures expected to fall sharply ahead of rain and possible thunderstorms this weekend.
Roseburg Regional Airport reached 93 degrees Wednesday, making it the warmest day recorded so far this month. The temperature was well above normal for early September and followed a rapid warmup from Monday’s high of 83 degrees.
The National Weather Service expects temperatures to begin easing Thursday, although Roseburg will remain warmer than normal with sunny skies and a high near 87 degrees. A dry front moving through Southern Oregon will bring slightly cooler temperatures along with breezy afternoon and evening conditions.
A more noticeable change arrives Friday, when Roseburg’s high is expected to reach only about 76 degrees. Skies should remain sunny before a stronger low-pressure system moves into the region Friday night.
Saturday will feel much different. Roseburg is forecast to reach a high of only about 66 degrees, a drop of approximately 27 degrees from Wednesday’s high. Showers are likely, and a thunderstorm will also be possible during the afternoon and evening.
The chance of precipitation in Roseburg is 60% Saturday and Saturday night. Rainfall amounts in the city are generally expected to remain below one-tenth of an inch, although locally higher totals could occur beneath thunderstorms. The broader system could produce between 0.15 and 0.25 inches along the coast, across portions of Douglas County and into the Southern Oregon Cascades.
Forecasters said temperatures across the region could run 15 to 20 degrees below normal Saturday and Sunday.
Conditions are expected to dry out Sunday as the low-pressure system moves east. Roseburg is forecast to see partly to mostly sunny skies with a high near 70 degrees.
A gradual warming trend will begin early next week. Forecast highs increase to around 76 degrees Monday, 80 Tuesday and 84 Wednesday, with dry weather expected throughout the period.
