Rain Headed to Roseburg as Strong September Storm Brings Cooler Temperatures
Rain arrives in Roseburg Wednesday as an unusually strong early September storm brings cooler temperatures to Southern Oregon. Up to three-quarters of an inch could fall through Wednesday night, with more showers possible Thursday.
Rain and sharply cooler temperatures are headed to Roseburg and much of Southern Oregon as an unusually strong early September storm moves into the region.
Roseburg is expected to remain mostly cloudy Tuesday with a high near 76 degrees. Clouds will increase overnight as temperatures fall to around 55.
Rain is expected to develop mainly after 11 a.m. Wednesday, with a 90% chance of precipitation and a high near 65 degrees. Between one-quarter and one-half inch of rain could fall during the day. Rain will continue into Wednesday evening, bringing additional accumulation of up to one-quarter inch.
Rain remains likely Thursday, mainly after 11 a.m., with a high near 68 degrees. Another one-tenth to one-quarter inch of precipitation is possible. Showers could continue Thursday night, when the chance of rain remains at 60%.
The National Weather Service in Medford said the storm will bring wetting rain to areas west of the Cascades before spreading east Wednesday night into Thursday. Some locations could set daily precipitation records Wednesday and Thursday.
The first substantial rain following a prolonged dry period may create slick road conditions as accumulated oil rises to the pavement. Drivers should use additional caution Tuesday and during the heavier rain Wednesday.
Rockslides are also possible along highways 38, 42 and 138, particularly in areas with steep slopes or land previously affected by wildfires.
Temperatures throughout the region are expected to run approximately 15 to 25 degrees below normal Wednesday and Thursday. Pockets of frost may develop in colder locations east of the Cascades, where frost advisories are in effect Wednesday morning.
Unsettled weather could remain over Southern Oregon through the weekend and into Monday. Forecasters said spotty showers may persist, although the location and intensity of rainfall later in the week remain uncertain.
