Pioneer Indian Museum to Host Open House Honoring Local Veterans
Pioneer Indian Museum in Canyonville will host a June 13 open house honoring local veterans, featuring donated veteran memorabilia and a historic 1862 flag made for Canyonville’s Fourth of July celebration.
The Pioneer Indian Museum in Canyonville will host an open house on Saturday, June 13, with a special focus on honoring local veterans.
The event will feature a new exhibit made up of donated veteran memorabilia, giving visitors a chance to view pieces connected to the service and history of veterans from the area.
One of the highlights of the open house will be a historic flag tied to Canyonville’s past. The large flag, measuring 9 feet 10 inches by 20 feet, was made for the community’s Fourth of July celebration in 1862 by Martha Thorn and other local women. The flag includes 34 stars, reflecting the number of states in the Union at that time.
The open house will run from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the museum. Cookies and coffee will be available for visitors.
