One Teen Dead, Another Critically Injured Following Myrtle Creek Stabbing

MYRTLE CREEK, Ore. - One teenager died and another was critically injured following a disturbance involving a knife at a Myrtle Creek residence Sunday night.

Douglas County sheriff’s officials said 911 dispatchers received a report shortly before 10:45 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, that two teenagers had been stabbed at a home in the 100 block of Northeast Laurel Avenue.

Officers with the Myrtle Creek Police Department and deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded. Authorities were told that the person believed to have stabbed the two teenagers had fled before law enforcement arrived.

Firefighters and emergency medical personnel also responded. A 17-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld.

A second 17-year-old boy was transported with critical injuries and later transferred to an out-of-area hospital for a higher level of care. Authorities have not released an update on his condition.

Detectives later located and interviewed a 16-year-old who reportedly fled the residence. No arrests have been made, and the names of everyone involved are being withheld while the investigation continues.

At the request of Myrtle Creek police, the Douglas County Major Crimes Team was activated and is leading the investigation. Authorities said there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The Major Crimes Team includes investigators from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Roseburg Police Department and Oregon State Police, working in consultation with the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.

The Myrtle Creek Police Department, Myrtle Creek Fire Department and Umpqua Valley Ambulance also assisted.
