An escaped debris burn spread through grass and into nearby timber Friday afternoon in Camas Valley, burning approximately one acre before firefighters contained it.

Camas Valley Rural Fire District was dispatched at 1:03 p.m. November 6 to the area of Westside Road and Upper Camas Road. The district said its first brush truck was en route just over three minutes after dispatch.

Crews arrived to find a moderately spreading grass fire extending into the timber. Firefighters quickly stopped its forward spread, then worked to extinguish remaining hot spots.

The district determined that the fire started when a debris burn pile escaped containment.

Five Camas Valley volunteer firefighters responded with two brush trucks. Tenmile Rural Fire District also provided mutual aid.

According to Camas Valley Fire, this was the second escaped debris burn the department has responded to this month.

The district reminded residents that dry conditions can persist after fire season ends. Anyone burning debris should maintain adequate clearance around the pile, keep water and firefighting tools nearby, and remain with the fire at all times.
