Nancy Nowak To Give Poetry Reading At Umpqua Valley Arts Center Saturday
Umpqua Valley Arts Center will celebrate National Poetry Month with a reading by UVA member Nancy Nowak on Saturday, April 25, at 1:30 p.m. in Gallery II. Nowak will share poems from her chapbook Where We Went Through.
ROSEBURG, Ore. — Umpqua Valley Arts Center will celebrate National Poetry Month with a poetry reading by UVA member Nancy Nowak on Saturday, April 25.
The reading is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Gallery II at the arts center. Nowak will share a selection of her poems, including several from her chapbook Where We Went Through. Light refreshments will be available, and copies of the chapbook will be available for purchase in the Gift Gallery.
Nowak’s poetry has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies, including Poetry Northwest, Comstock Review, Willows Wept Review, The Zeppelin Reader, and Windblown Sheets: Poems by Mothers and Daughters. She holds an MFA in poetry from Sarah Lawrence College and taught writing and poetry in Southern Oregon before retiring in 2016.
Her chapbook, Where We Went Through, was published by Finishing Line Press in 2024. The publisher describes the collection as a journey through physical and emotional landscapes, centered on love, loss, grief, and the act of continuing forward after the death of a loved one.
Following the reading, Nowak will answer questions from attendees about poetry, reading more poetry, writing, restarting a writing practice, or other topics related to poetry and the writing process.
The event is part of National Poetry Month, which is observed each April.
