ROSEBURG, Ore. - Music on the Half Shell opened its 2026 season Tuesday night with a warm evening, a relaxed crowd and a strong first-show turnout at the Nichols Band Shell in Stewart Park.

The John Jorgenson Bluegrass Band kicked off the summer concert series, drawing families, couples and longtime Half Shell regulars to the park with lawn chairs, blankets and coolers spread across the hillside.

While the heat may have kept some people home early in the evening, the crowd continued to settle in as the sun dropped and temperatures eased.

“I thought it was a great turnout for the first concert,” one Music on the Half Shell board member said after the show. “It was very warm out, I think the heat kept some away, but once the sun started to set, it turned into a lovely night.”

The board member also praised Jorgenson, describing him as “a wonderful guitar player and vocalist” and noting his Grammy-winning background.

The evening had the feel of a classic Half Shell night, with people stretched out on blankets under the trees, kids gathered near the stage, and a hillside full of concertgoers taking in the music as the temperature eased.

Organizers said the night went smoothly overall, including for families in attendance.

“The kids were on their best behavior tonight,” the board member said. “It was an easy going, great night for sure.”

Music on the Half Shell is scheduled to continue its 2026 season with Tuesday evening concerts at Stewart Park from 7 to 9 p.m. through Aug. 11. Next week’s concert, scheduled for June 30, will feature Amelia Day. The free summer series remains one of Roseburg’s most familiar outdoor traditions, bringing live music and community gatherings back to the park each year.
