Saving Grace Plans Three Fee-Waived Adoption Events Through October
Saving Grace Humane Society will host three fee-waived adoption events in Roseburg this August, September and October as part of the ASPCA’s Rescue Effect campaign, helping more shelter animals find homes.
ROSEBURG, Ore. - Saving Grace Humane Society will offer several opportunities for Douglas County residents to adopt a pet at no cost over the next three months as part of a nationwide effort to help more shelter animals find homes.
The Roseburg-based shelter is participating in the ASPCA’s Rescue Effect campaign, which brings together shelters and rescue organizations across the country to promote pet adoption and fostering.
Saving Grace will hold three fee-waived adoption weekends at its shelter:
- Aug. 14-15
- Sept. 4-5
- Oct. 16-17
During the events, adoption fees will be waived for approved adopters. Saving Grace said its normal adoption fees range from $25 to $225 depending on the animal.
The campaign comes as animal shelters nationwide continue to face capacity challenges. According to information provided by Saving Grace and the ASPCA, nearly six million dogs and cats entered shelters and rescue organizations across the country in 2025.
Adopting an animal not only provides that pet with a home, but also opens shelter space and resources for other animals needing care. Fostering can provide similar relief by temporarily moving animals into homes while they wait for permanent placement.
“At Saving Grace, we see every day how life-changing adoption can be for both animals and the people who welcome them home,” Saving Grace Development Director Melissa Owens said. “Thanks to the ASPCA’s support, we’re able to remove one more barrier to adoption during these fee-waived events.”
Owens encouraged people who have been considering bringing home a pet to visit the shelter and meet the animals currently available for adoption.
The Rescue Effect runs from August through October and is designed to help participating organizations increase adoptions and encourage more people to become involved with their local shelters.
The ASPCA is providing $2 million in grants nationwide this year to help participating shelters and rescue groups cover adoption fees and other operational costs associated with the campaign.
Saving Grace Humane Society is Douglas County’s only full-service animal shelter and provides shelter, food, medical treatment and other care for thousands of animals each year.
