Jackie Venson Brings Genre-Blending Guitar Work To Music On The Half Shell Tonight
Austin guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Jackie Venson brings her blend of blues, rock, soul, funk and R&B to Music on the Half Shell tonight at 7 p.m. at Stewart Park. The concert is free.
ROSEBURG, Ore. - Music on the Half Shell moves into the final stretch of its summer season tonight with Austin guitarist, vocalist and songwriter Jackie Venson.
The free concert begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the Nichols Band Shell in Stewart Park. Venson’s performance is the second-to-last show in this year’s concert series.
While Venson’s music is rooted in the blues, her sound rarely stays in one place for long. Her performances weave together rock, soul, R&B, funk and electronic influences, all centered around expressive vocals and electric guitar work.
The Austin native has developed a national following through years of touring, recording and experimenting with different musical styles. She has shared the stage with Gary Clark Jr. and Melissa Etheridge and performed with Alanis Morissette and Lainey Wilson during the 2023 CMT Music Awards. In 2024, she was selected to perform in Rolling Stone’s Future of Music showcase.
Venson’s breakthrough album, “Joy,” was released in 2019. When the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted touring the following year, she turned to livestreaming and found an even larger audience online. Those performances helped place her ninth on Pollstar’s list of the year’s top livestreaming artists and led to an appearance during Season 46 of “Austin City Limits.”
Her recordings show the range audiences can expect from her live performance. “Love Transcends” draws heavily from Texas blues, while “Ghost in the Machine” blends rock with electro-funk. Her 2025 release, “The Love Anthology,” moves further into soul and R&B.
Venson’s Roseburg performance follows last week’s appearance by 19-year-old guitarist and songwriter Bella Rayne.
Music on the Half Shell will conclude its 2026 season Tuesday, Aug. 11, with MarchFourth Marching Band. The Portland-based ensemble combines brass, percussion and funk with a theatrical performance featuring acrobats and stilt walkers. That free concert will also begin at 7 p.m. at Stewart Park.
