Heat Advisory Remains In Effect For Umpqua Valley Through Wednesday Night
A heat advisory remains in effect for the Umpqua Valley through 11 p.m. Wednesday, with highs of 95 to 100 degrees. The National Weather Service warns smoke may make it harder to cool homes overnight.
ROSEBURG, Ore. - A heat advisory remains in effect for the Umpqua Valley as temperatures are expected to climb as high as 100 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday.
The National Weather Service in Medford said the advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, through 11 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5.
Afternoon temperatures across central Douglas County are expected to range from 95 to 100 degrees, while overnight lows will remain between 60 and 65 degrees.
The advisory covers the Umpqua Valley, including Roseburg, Green, Drain, Canyonville, Elkton, Sutherlin, Umpqua, Myrtle Creek, Winchester and Glendale. Tiller and Camas Valley are also included in the affected area.
Forecasters said the prolonged heat will create a moderate risk of heat-related illness, particularly for people who do not have access to adequate cooling.
Periods of wildfire smoke could also make conditions more difficult by limiting the ability to open windows and bring cooler air indoors overnight.
Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned locations when possible, avoid extended time in direct sunlight and check on relatives and neighbors.
Children and pets should never be left unattended inside parked vehicles, even for a short period of time.
