MYRTLE CREEK, Ore. - Firefighters stopped the forward spread of a grass fire near the 2000 block of Richardson Road on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 8, according to the Douglas Forest Protective Association.

Crews from DFPA, Central Douglas Fire & Rescue, and the Myrtle Creek Fire Department were dispatched at approximately 1:48 p.m. Arriving firefighters found an estimated 1.5-acre grass fire spreading at a moderate rate and began initial attack operations.

DFPA reported that three of its engines and overhead command staff were on scene.

By 2:25 p.m., firefighters had knocked down the fire’s forward spread and were transitioning into mop-up. DFPA credited the quick action of responding firefighters and said no homes or structures were threatened.

The fire was human-caused, according to DFPA. Details surrounding the cause remained under investigation. The agency did not provide a final acreage in its update.

With forward spread stopped and crews moving into mop-up, DFPA said the 2:25 p.m. update would be its final public information on the incident.

The agency also reminded residents that moderate fire danger and fire restrictions remained in effect at the time of the fire. Those restrictions prohibited mowing dried, cured grass between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m., prohibited debris burning at all times, and limited campfires to designated locations.
